Even in our time, obese people have to deal with shaming and discrimination. And sometimes it comes to the point of absurdity. So, a 27-year-old American woman was not allowed to enter the party simply because, according to face control, she was “too big.” She shared her story on TikTok.
Fallon Melillo, a 27-year-old resident of the United States, went on vacation to Miami with her friends. The girls decided to attend a pool party at the Hard Rock Hotel. It was possible to get there by a special bus, which ran only for the guests of the party.
The day before the event, on the organizers’ social media page, Melillo saw that face control officers would not let overweight girls in.
“Sorry, no big girls at this party! Security is very strict when it comes to appearance. If you’ve had trouble going to exclusive clubs before, then this party is not for you! Please don’t waste our time or yours thinking we can let you in if you don’t meet the requirements.”
To clarify whether such discriminatory rules really exist, the girl contacted representatives of the club where the event was planned. They assured her that nothing of the kind was foreseen.
However, in reality everything turned out differently: the guards did not even let Fallon on the bus. The girl immediately recorded this video on TikTok – the video quickly became popular – it was watched more than 575 thousand times. In it, Melillo called such an act from the organizers extremely “outrageous and humiliating.”
“They gave us back the money, but at that moment I felt helpless. This is what every big person is afraid of not getting into the event because of the way we look, ”Fallon said.
She did not accept the situation. The girl went further and turned directly to the owners of the hotel, on whose territory the party was held. The hotel representatives apologized for what happened and ceased to cooperate with the organizers of the event.
Meanwhile, a similar story happened to the Italian Anna Delluchi – she was not allowed on the EasyJet plane. The 55-year-old woman was told she was “too fat” and required to purchase two tickets.
In addition, when boarding the flight, Delluchi was asked to stand on the scales – the indignant woman refused, to which one of the employees said only: “I am very sorry that you are too fat. And if you want to fly, you’ll have to buy two tickets.”
As a result, Anna decided not to board the plane – instead, she accused the airline of causing moral damage and sued her. Representatives of EasyJet said that what happened was an “unforgivable mistake” and assured that they would conduct an internal investigation.
