The geyser goes out: causes and repair

If your geyser goes out after ignition, there can be many reasons. You fix some problems with your own hands, others require the involvement of a master. In the article you will find a listing of all faults when the burner goes out. You will also learn what to do in such situations.

Why does the column light up and go out

If the gas flow heater turns off after ignition, you need to follow:

  1. How the igniter goes out (perhaps extraneous sounds are heard).
  2. How long does it take for the burner to go out after ignition?

The reasons are similar for almost all Beretta, Junkers, Oasis, Bosch models. Read more article “Column Vector does not light up and other malfunctions.”

Extinguishes immediately after switching on

If the appliance turns off immediately after startingprobably the ionization sensor has failed. He is responsible for the presence of a flame in the burner. How to understand what’s wrong with him:

  • The burner goes out 3-5 seconds after ignition.
  • Restarting is accompanied by longer work.
  • After a few starts, the equipment begins to function normally.
  • After a “rest” the problems recur.

Inspect the wiring that leads from the sensor to the control board. If everything is in order, a replacement part will be required.

The column lights up normally, but after a few minutes of operation it goes out. A sensor has been triggered that reacts to combustion products. Probably too many of them have accumulated, they are not displayed.

  • The chimney is clogged with soot, soot, debris. There is no normal traction, mining is not brought out. You need to clean the chimney opening on your side. If that doesn’t work, call the utility company.
  • Powerful ventilation works nearby. Then the mining is drawn into the ventilation hole. Turn off ventilation or set to minimum power while the column is in operation.
  • Clogged heat exchanger. When working on it, scale, soot, soot are deposited. You may notice that the color of the flame changes: it becomes yellow instead of blue. Remove the casing, unscrew the fasteners of the heat exchanger, clean it. How to do this, we wrote in the article “How to clean a geyser”.
  • No ventilation. Natural ventilation is required for traction. Open a vent or install a valve.
  • Extinguishing when the ignition button is released. The problem is typical for technology with piezo ignition. Hold down the button for at least 10 seconds.

How to check traction? Bring a burning match to the control window or ventilation. If the flame deviates to the side, there is thrust. If it stays hot, no.

Goes out when mixed

When a hot stream is mixed with a cold one, the pressure drops in the line. Therefore, the wick goes out. Adjust the settings on the regulator to a comfortable temperature. Relieve pressure with a special handle.

If you mix water, make sure that the hot stream remains the main one.

During work

The column “Neva” or “Astra” lights up, works for a long time, after which it turns off.

  • Check your settings. You may have chosen to turn off automatically after a certain time.
  • The temperature rise is more than 100 degrees. Then the temperature sensor is triggered, the work stops.
  • Poor pressure in the water or gas pipeline.
  • Disruption of contact between thermocouple and solenoid valve. Clean the contacts, tighten the connections.
  • The contacts of the power supply are oxidized. At the same time, the device clicks, but the wick does not burn. Contacts need to be cleaned.
  • The batteries are dead. Replace every six months. It is better to take batteries that hold a charge longer.

When switching to shower

Heater keeps turning off when switching to shower? What’s happened:

  • Pressure drop due to blockage of the holes in the watering can. Unscrew the watering can from the hose. Clean and flush holes. Often they get clogged. If metal elements are removed, they can be soaked in a solution of citric acid.
  • The tube in the shower hose was twisted. She constantly turns, so she could get confused. Reposition the tube.
  • Insufficient patency of the watering can. For normal operation, the column requires a large pressure head. If the watering can slows down the flow, the burner goes out. The way out of the situation is to open the faucet in the kitchen to increase the pressure. But it is uneconomical to do this all the time, so install a new watering can.
  • Breakage or blockage of the mixer. When you turn on the faucet, the burner lights up, but goes out when you switch to the shower? So the switch is broken. Disassemble the mixer, check for clogging.
  • At the entrance to the water unit there is a filter that traps small debris from the water supply, rust. Over time it gets dirty. To clean, unscrew the screws, remove the filter. Rinse the part under running water, brush with citric acid.

To prevent damage, follow these guidelines:

  • Perform maintenance checks at least once a year.
  • Clean the chimney periodically.
  • Replace batteries.
  • Clean parts from scale and soot.
  • Provide adequate ventilation.

We have listed typical problems with column attenuation. Most of them can be fixed on your own. But if you are not sure, contact the service center.
