Installing heating equipment, we expect to spend the winter in warmth and comfort. Agree, it’s unpleasant when problems with heating begin in the midst of cold weather. What to do if the gas boiler does not gain temperature? Why does it not heat the water up to the set values? We will show you how to restore its work and return heat to the house.
Why are there heating problems?
There may be several reasons for the failure. Outward signs will help to find them out. First of all, the indicators on the thermostats are checked. Many users are wondering: what temperature should be set on the boiler? The maximum and minimum values are specified in the operating instructions. For models of different companies – such as Buderus, Bosch, Navien, Vaillant – indicators may differ.
Most often, the nominal heating temperature on the regulator is 80 degrees. However, experts recommend setting no more than 60 degrees. At higher rates, the water heats up more, and this contributes to the deposition of scale. When it covers the walls of the heat exchanger, heat transfer decreases. As a result, the node overheats, and the system, on the contrary, does not warm up as a whole.
The outdoor temperature sensor measures readings in the room. According to them, it automatically regulates the heating.
If you have a similar sensor, then set it to comfortable values for you. Read more about setting up a gas boiler in one of the previous articles – на page you will find a detailed description of the heating control.
Causes of problems and their elimination
What else could be the causes of poor heating? Consider possible problems and ways to solve them.
Incorrect regulation of the burner flame. The temperature does not exceed 40-60°C. Add flame. To do this, dismantle the boiler body, after unscrewing the fastening screws. Increase the power of the flame by turning the burner control. Follow the results of the settings, you may need to further increase or decrease the power.
The speed of the coolant drops. This means that the system quickly loses heat. Why does this happen:
- Leaks in radiators, pipes. Check all connections, joints. Wipe them with a dry cloth. If a leak is found, the area must be sealed. For this, plumbing tow or a special sealant is suitable. Feed the system with coolant.
- Incorrect pump adjustment. Circulation pumps are sometimes equipped with a speed controller. To increase the speed of fluid movement, set a higher value.
- Incorrect installation or connection of the system. Make sure that all shut-off valves are open and that water flows smoothly into the radiators.
- Air locks also delay circulation. To eliminate them, Mayevsky cranes are used, which are located on batteries. Substitute the container and unscrew the tap. The air will come out with the fluid. Then close the valves and check that the system is working properly.
Automation fails. Perhaps one of the sensors sends a false signal, so the boiler is blocked when the temperature rises. It is necessary to diagnose all the parts, their wiring and contacts.
Incorrectly selected equipment for power. There is such a thing as boiler clocking. If the power is too high for your area, then the unit will often turn off when it reaches a certain temperature. In this case, the room does not warm up well. What temperature should be set in this case? Regulators won’t help here. You will have to include additional radiators in the circuit or change the settings of the gas valve. If this option does not suit you, then the only thing left is to replace the boiler with a less powerful one.
Gas pressure drop. Unscrew the fuel valve to the end, check it for serviceability. Sometimes excess lubrication interferes with the gas supply. Remove excess from valve parts.
Poor removal of combustion products. This happens with bad traction. The temperature of the gases at the outlet is about 120°C. This leads to overheating of the boiler, malfunctions. In addition, with poor air flow, the flame becomes unstable.
Check the draft by holding a lit match up to the control window. If the air flow is normal, then the flame will deviate to the side. If not, it will burn evenly. In this case, you should clean the chimney from blockages.
Blockage in the heat exchanger. As we wrote above, scale is deposited on the tubes of the assembly. Deposits narrow the passage for water, so pressure and temperature drop. The liquid inside boils, and soon the heat exchanger fails. When the temperature drops for this reason, it is necessary to dismantle and clean the assembly from scale. Use reagents and a pump to prime the coil passages. To avoid repetition, install magnetic water filters.
After reading the publication, you can independently add and pump up the coolant, increase the heating level. Adjust the operation of the boiler according to the instructions, observe the terms of technical inspections, then your equipment will break down much less often.
