The sun improves mood, makes us feel happier and more energetic. Many people are looking forward to the spring and summer season, when we can enjoy the warm rays of the sun much more often. Some of them hope that their skin will soon take on a nice, golden brown color. Exposure to the sun can be good for your beauty and well-being, but remember to take precautions when doing so.
Everything in excess is harmful. This rule also applies to tanning. The impact of the sun on the human body is twofold: on the one hand, it improves our condition, mood, causes the production of vitamin D, and on the other hand, it can be destructive to our skin and cause cancer. Learn the advantages and disadvantages of tanning, as well as methods that will allow you to enjoy warm days without any worries.
Benefits of being in the sun
To prove how good the nice weather affects our psyche, it is enough to mention the existence of a method of treatment with natural solar radiation (heliotherapy). Its purpose is to irradiate the whole body or its part, which causes the production of vitamin D in the skin. It is necessary for the proper development of the skeleton, which is why heliotherapy is mainly recommended for the treatment of rickets and serious fractures. In addition, the sun improves the body’s immunity, the functioning of the circulatory system, supports detoxification of the body and metabolism.
After exposure to the sun’s rays, the production of serotonin, the hormone of happiness, and melatonin, responsible for restful sleep, increases in our body.
Cons of UVA and UVB radiation
However, using the sun without any protection and unreasonably will do us a lot of harm. This can cause sunburn, i.e. redness and cracking of the skin, and even the appearance of blisters and scars. Too frequent tanning also becomes the cause of discoloration caused by overproduction of skin pigment. Another downside of sun exposure is the formation of free radicals that accelerate the aging of the body, destroying, for example, collagen and elastin fibers. Free radicals also penetrate inside the cells, so they can (in the worst case) contribute to the formation of cancer, the most dangerous of which is melanoma.
Don’t give up on the sun, but keep a few things in mind
Before enjoying the charms of sunny spring and summer, you need to prepare yourself properly.
- Remember to use cosmetics with SPF filters, especially for the face,
- Follow the rules of safe tanning – thoroughly lubricate the whole body with sunscreen, avoid the midday sun, additionally protect sensitive areas and arms.
- Wear a hat and cover your eyes with sunglasses with UV filters.
