The first month of a child’s life: what you need, how to look after, how much you should gain
The first month of a child’s life is a test for parents, especially if they are in this status for the first time. Even before giving birth, mom and dad need to figure out everything and the details of care in the first month.
How to care for a baby, how much should he gain
In the first month, you need to feed your baby, walk with him, monitor his hygiene, observe a sleep and wake schedule, and do massage as needed. Take your time to receive guests and go with the baby to relatives. Give him time to adapt.
The first month of a child’s life is not easy for parents
Each mother carries out feeding as she sees fit. Someone does it on time, someone on demand. It is advisable to regularly weigh the crumbs. You should know how much a child should gain in the first month – 700-800 g.
Hygiene procedures include:
- washing;
- eye, ear, nose care;
- washing away;
- navel treatment;
- combing;
- removal of seborrheic crusts on the head;
- cutting nails on hands and feet.
The first bathing of an infant should take place after the navel has healed. Before that, just wipe the baby with wet wipes. Daily bathing is not required, but it is not prohibited either, because it gives the baby pleasure. On average, you need to bathe a month old baby 2-3 times a week.
What to do on a walk and how to walk
Walking is one of the important elements in the development and strengthening of children’s health. They depend on the season and the temperature outside. If the baby was born in winter, to begin with, just take him out on the balcony for a couple of minutes and let him sleep for a while with the window open. Then gradually warm the room to normal temperature. Dress your child appropriately to “walk” on the balcony or sleep with the window open.
From the second week of life, combine light massage and hardening. You will be taught the basics of massage at the hospital. This combination is most beneficial for the health of the child.
For a walk at any time of the year, dress your baby according to the weather, he should not be hot or cold.
If the baby was born from spring to autumn, you can start walking on the street from the second week of life. The first walk should last no more than 20 minutes. Beginning with the second walk, gradually increase the time. In general, you need to walk with a small child often and for a long time, when he gets used to it.
Despite the large number of points in the care rules, it is not difficult to remember what to do. In just a couple of weeks you will be performing all procedures with ease and automation.
