He won’t cut it, and so much the better! Before leaving the maternity ward and having celebrated his 8th day, Baby must imperatively go to his first compulsory medical examination.. In general, you only have one or two corridors (big max!) To cross to meet the pediatrician on call, well-versed in this kind of exams. And the good news for Pitchoun is that he won’t be completely disoriented. Without knowing it, he already knows most of the tests, since they are the ones he passed – most often with flying colors! – at birth. We take the same (or almost) and we start again …

Skin color, muscle tone, suppleness … Baby is examined from every angle during this first medical visit! The doctor takes turns checking his heart rate, breathing, limbs, and each of his organs to make sure everything is okay. Without forgetting the great classic: the examination of the hips, just to be sure that there is no risk of dislocation.
Finished after that? Not yet … Baby must also submit to neurological tests for the control of his reflexes, in particular automatic walking, sucking, gripping… We also check his sight and his hearing. Moreover, for info, screening for deafness is not yet systematic (and that’s a shame!), It depends on the maternity hospitals.
During this first medical visit, do not hesitate to confide your doubts and questions to the pediatrician. And if any anomaly is detected, he will be able to set up appropriate care or refer you to a competent specialist.
