The eternal cold controversy: proven methods vs current trends
Affiliate material
The issue of ARVI treatment can split society more trenchant than the dispute over which side to break an egg. We believe in the proven power of mustard plasters, warm socks, tea with raspberries and “how to sweat under the covers” … And our grown children seem to completely ignore any treatment in principle. How to find a middle ground? And does it exist at all? Let’s figure it out!
When treating ARVI, warmth is important: clothes, mustard plasters, warming up the nose …
This is a rather controversial postulate. During the treatment of colds, it is really worth keeping the limbs warm – to avoid the “white fever”. This is a rise in temperature in which the hands and feet remain cold due to vasospasm. White fever is not very comfortable to feel and can make it difficult to knock down the heat.
However, other sources of heat (mustard plasters, salt bags and eggs for warming up the nose) are not only optional, but also not recommended for possible bacterial complications of ARVI. Their use can lead to an increase in the inflammatory process and more active reproduction of harmful microorganisms.
How to: keep arms and legs warm, but avoid additional warming of the chest and nose. Ventilate all areas regularly to provide fresh air and reduce the rate of spread of viruses and their deposition on surfaces.
Drink as much hot tea as possible with a source of vitamin C
We all know that raspberry or lemon tea is considered one of the traditional remedies for the treatment of colds. A hot drink helps to sweat, and fruit and berry supplements provide the intake of such an important vitamin C … Is this also a myth?
Alas, rather yes than no. When treating any ARVI, it is really very important to drink plenty of fluids in order to remove harmful substances and decay products of viruses from the body. However, tea contains many tannins that can contribute to moisture retention (and thus toxins) and overall dehydration. And, to be honest, there is not much more vitamin C in a lemon slice than in a spoonful of grated raspberries with sugar …
How to: drink a lot of warm liquid – ideally, pure water, however, compotes and fruit drinks, cooked without a large amount of sugar, are allowed. It is imperative to humidify the room in which the patient is located, and maintain a humidity level of at least 40-50%. Get vitamin C from adequate sources.
Colds are treated with antipyretic drugs
Despite the fact that antipyretics really help to reduce high fever and the corresponding relief of well-being, they are not a complete treatment for ARVI.
As a rule, our body itself tries to suppress the multiplication of the virus, and we must help it by providing symptomatic treatment and timely combating unpleasant symptoms of the common cold, such as fever, fever, aches, nasal swelling … the main thing is the fight against the virus.
For symptomatic treatment of colds and flu, you can use old and proven remedies. Special attention is paid to combined drugs, which have anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties at the same time.
A great example of such a remedy is the good old Antigrippin-Anvi… It helps fight the symptoms of acute respiratory viral infections and flu, helps to reduce fever and reduce nasal swelling.
The main thing, remember: of course, you should not unconditionally cling to the old methods … You should competently combine modern trends with proven means!
