It is believed that women are more sensitive. Is it really? This stereotype about sexuality is discussed by our experts, sexologists Alain Eril and Mireille Bonyerbal.
Alain Eril, psychoanalyst, sexologist:
This opinion is probably rooted in our culture, but it also has neurophysiological grounds. It can be seen, for example, that the breath of the breeze, felt by the skin, is perceived by women more voluptuously than by men. From this we can conclude that the skin receptors are more sensitive in women.
This feature can be explained by human evolution: the man developed through physical work, during which his skin became rough and weathered, which may have led to some loss of sensitivity. We often notice that men do not like to be touched — it turns out that their sexuality is indeed limited to the genital area.
But when men are not afraid to show the feminine side of their nature, they discover many erogenous zones in addition to the genitals. They discover what is obvious to women — that their whole body is a sensory organ and can successfully participate in sexual relations.
Mireille Bonierbal, psychiatrist, sexologist:
In the distribution of erogenous zones, neuroanatomical factors play an important role, since in men and women blood is distributed differently throughout the body at the time of arousal. In men, the rush of blood occurs mainly in the genital area, while in women the blood rushes to different parts of the body.
The erogenous zones of a man are mostly concentrated in the genital area, sometimes in the chest area.
The erogenous zones of a man are mostly concentrated in the genital area, sometimes in the chest area. This happens because the little boy experiences erotic sensations exclusively in connection with his sexual organ, since he is in sight and can be touched.
The little girl does not see her genitals; when she touches them, most often she is scolded for it. Thus, having no idea about them, she is rather excited by the looks that are cast on her body, chest, hair, buttocks, legs. Her sexual organ is her entire body, from her feet to her hair.
