It seems that the century that has begun will indeed be the century of psychology. It looks quite plausible: in just some 70–80 years, it has gone from a purely academic discipline, which was practiced by several hundred scientists, to a supplier of applied technologies that are used absolutely everywhere and on the widest scale. This breakthrough is unparalleled in the history of science.
But getting the technology is not enough, you still need to learn how to use it. Our consciousness, thinking, mind are powerful and complex tools. We have them, but… we don’t own them. No one teaches us to handle our consciousness in such a way that it really serves us and helps us out in many troubles. Therefore, emotions so often obscure reality from us and the mind is unarmed before them.
Psychological culture has already become a necessary part of the general culture of modern man. The lack of culture in the usual sense means the inability to handle the valuable that humanity has accumulated, to benefit from it. And being uncultured psychologically means not being able to properly use your mind, consciousness, the resources of your psyche and personality.
Make good use of your mind, the resources of your psyche and personality
Psychological culture is the same king in the head, without which we have the blunders of economists, and the infantilism of politicians, and family dramas, and national conflicts (more precisely, their transition from the verbal level to the gunshot level), and the grandiose profits of all kinds of thimble-makers that make an unmistakable a bet on our excitement, coupled with the inability to move our brains …
Moreover, the education we are used to has only an indirect relation to this culture: expanding our knowledge, it does not give us the means necessary for life in a changing world to comprehend and understand the environment. Instead, we often get only ready-made stereotypes of understanding, canned food of someone’s mental work, but what we need is a recipe for preparing fresh ideas on our own!
Psychological culture helps a person to better understand his soul and feel his body; fear neither death nor life; to enjoy communicating with people and achieve their goals at the same time; minimize conflicts around you, and quickly and constructively resolve those that do arise; to please others without pleasing them; go your own way without entering into confrontations; to speak and listen, understanding more than what is said — in general, to extract the maximum from what God or nature has awarded us, and what we ourselves have acquired in our life journey.
This, in my opinion, is what Psychology is striving for.
