He sits in front of you, your eyes meet, a spark runs through … But here is your stop: it’s time to leave! Have you ever experienced this? As a rule, such fleeting loves end in nothing. But the Englishwoman Seattle Sims did not agree with this outcome – she was looking for a guy she liked for two years. Now they are together.
In 2019, the Englishwoman Seattle Sims was riding a bus, and suddenly her eyes fell on the guy sitting opposite – she immediately liked him. The young people smiled at each other. Then the girl did not dare to take any action, so she just got off at her stop.
Nevertheless, you can’t fool fate – a few months later, Sims again ran into a handsome stranger on public transport. However, this time none of them took the first step. Only now, after the second meeting, Seattle could not get the young man out of her head and decided to find him at all costs.
To do this, the Englishwoman registered in a dating application – in the questionnaire she indicated that she was looking for a stranger. “I looked into the eyes and smiled at the guy on the 70 bus in November 2019, and then history repeated itself a few months later. If it was you, press the “Superlike” button, ”the girl wrote.
It’s hard to believe, but the guy really somehow found her page. And I decided to contact her. “Okay, this might be a little awkward, but did you write about me by any chance? I usually ride bus number 70 and I remember you – a sweet red-haired girl with a ring in her nose, ”he wrote.
It turned out his name was Greg. The young man asked Seattle to go on a date. Of course, the girl agreed. After several meetings, Sims posted a video on TikTok, in which she said that she and Greg are now a couple. But it all started with a simple smile!
It turned out that women rarely continue a conversation if it starts with a banal question about their mood.
Dating sites often help single people find each other. But for the meeting to take place, you must be able to immediately make a good impression. American scientists recently conducted a study1, which showed which ways to meet online are most effective.
One of the authors admitted that at first they became interested in this topic purely out of personal interest: “My co-author Robert Robbins often uses dating sites. Once he noticed: depending on how he started communication, the results of the conversation were different. This is what prompted us to start researching,” said Minghao Dai, an assistant professor at Kennesaw University.
The study involved 237 users of online dating sites aged 18 to 24 years. The scientists looked at the 4 most popular ways to start a conversation:
- Make a nice compliment
- Start a conversation with a joke;
- Use any pick-up method;
- Just say “Hi, how are you?”
It turned out that women rarely continue the conversation if it begins with a banal question about business or mood. Most of all, they like compliments or jokes without subtext, which immediately set them up for a pleasant conversation.
At the same time, the worst results are shown by clichéd phrases that are loved and considered extremely original by pick-up artists (“Does your mother need a son-in-law?”). However, women believe that this is an extremely unfortunate way to get acquainted.
The researchers also found that men do not care how they begin to communicate with the interlocutors in the application. The only thing that determines their willingness to continue the conversation is the attractive appearance of the person they are talking to.
