The emotional intelligence of a leader. How to Develop and Apply by Peter Salovey and David R. Caruso

Emotional intelligence involves the ability to “read” emotions, understand their causes and manage them. In other words, it is designed to reunite feelings with logic and reason.

The task may seem impossible, because the mind, as you know, is out of tune with the heart … However, co-author of the concept of emotional intelligence (together with John Meyer) Peter Salovey and Yale University psychology professor David R. Caruso are sure that these skills can be developed. Even leaders need them. Leaders who can capitalize on emotions (even negative ones like fear or anger) build stronger teams and make better decisions. The authors offer to assess their emotional intelligence, offer tests and exercises, illustrating them with many examples. The manual was published with the support of the CPC International Center.
