Start COVID-19 vaccine Frequently asked questions Where can I get vaccinated? Check if you can get vaccinated

Thanks to studies conducted on vaccinated people, we know that the effectiveness of the preparations decreases over time. As a result, some countries have decided to administer another dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The latest research from the USA shows that this is the right decision. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine had the worst results after a few months.

  1. The study published in the journal Science shows that after three months of full inoculation with Pfizer, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, the effectiveness of the preparations begins to decrease significantly
  2. The study did not include AstraZeneki, which is not administered in the US – and it was vaccinated Americans who were tested
  3. In this comparison, the most disturbing decreases in immunity were observed in people vaccinated with the vector preparation Johnson & Johnson

Protection against infection becomes weaker over time. Johnson & Johnson is the worst

An extensive study from the United States covered a group of 800. veterans vaccinated with one of the three drugs used in America against COVID-19: Pfizer, Moderna, or Johnson & Johnson. In March, protection against infection in all patients remained at a similar level. Over time, however, it began to decline. In addition, disproportionately – slowest in the case of Moderna, and quite drastically in people vaccinated with single-dose Johnson & Johnson.

At the end of September, six months after vaccination, protection for patients who took Moderna was 58%. (in March it was 89%). In the case of Pfizer, there was a decrease from 87% to 45%. As for Johnson & Johnson, the level dropped from 86% to just 13% in six months. This means that just six months after full vaccination with this preparation, it practically no longer protects against coronavirus infection.

Fortunately, all preparations after six months are still a protective barrier against death from COVID-19 infection. In the case of Moderna, the risk of death from coronavirus among people 65+ was lower by 76%. compared to unvaccinated veterans. Pfizer’s performance was slightly weaker: 70 percent. J&J was at the bottom again, reducing the risk of death by 52%.

Prof. Krzysztof Pyrć: «It is worth considering the time in the certificate»

The results of the American study were commented on by prof. dr hab. Krzysztof Pyrć, head of the Laboratory of Virology at the Małopolska Center of Biotechnology of the Jagiellonian University. The expert suggested that the radically decreasing protection from Johnson & Johnson should result in a reduction in the validity of the covid certificate in people who took this preparation.

«Important work on the decline of immunity over time after vaccination. Protection against infection (PCR +) is declining, but is not too bad for vaccines. With JJ, it is worth considering the time in the certificate »- writes prof. Krzysztof Pyrć.

Let us recall that in the light of the current regulations, a covid certificate is issued to a fully vaccinated person for a period of 12 months. There are currently no guidelines as to what will happen after this time. At the moment, the validity of the covid passport is also not affected by the third dose of the vaccine.
