The educational campaign «Shameful diseases. Let’s overcome the taboo »

Why are there still diseases that are taboo for us? What is the problem of stigma and who is it most often affected? Why do most of the people affected by seemingly embarrassing diseases live in fear of discrimination and feel different and ashamed, and in fact are lonely in their illness?

We want to fight this belief by making the society aware of the important role in the treatment of these diseases is played by a properly formulated diagnosis, properly selected therapy and the patient’s knowledge about a specific disease. Hence educational campaign prepared by The Point «Shameful diseases. Let’s overcome the taboo » is a response to the need for social education and the transfer of knowledge that will allow us to understand that every disease, even the seemingly embarrassing one, is a normal disease that needs to be fought.

List of discussed problems and speaking Experts

Patrycja Rzucidło from the Institute of Patient Rights and Health Education raises an important topic of HIV infection. At the same time, it informs about the perverse campaign «Do you like risk? Check if you won? » which is intended to pay particular attention to the problem of worrying statistics on HIV infection and to encourage the performance of tests that exclude or confirm infection.
