The earliest date at which pregnancy can be determined

The sooner the better – this rule, like no other, is applicable to expectant mothers. When you are trying to conceive, you want to know the news of the stork early. At what time it is possible to accurately determine pregnancy depends on the diagnostic methods.

How long is pregnancy visible? Home tests can show it is present on the first day of your missed period.

Tests for detecting pregnancy are sensitive to chorionic gonadotropin, a hormone that the chorion produces in a woman’s body within 8-10 days after conception. Typically, test makers guarantee an accurate result from the first day of your missed period.

However, it should be borne in mind that the accuracy of such tests depends on many factors, and in some cases they can give both a false negative and a false positive result.

The most accurate result in the very early stages of pregnancy is given by a blood test for the presence of human chorionic gonadotropin. Chorion begins to secrete this hormone already on the 8th day after the introduction of the sperm into the egg, and its content increases until the 9-11th week of pregnancy.

A blood test for the content of chorionic gonadotropin allows you to detect pregnancy already on the 10th day after the alleged conception.

How long does a gynecologist see pregnancy with an ultrasound scan depends on the research method:

  • when examining with a transvaginal sensor, the ovum is clearly visible at 5-6 weeks after the first day of the last menstruation.

  • With an abdominal examination – through the anterior wall of the peritoneum – pregnancy becomes noticeable after 9-12 weeks from the beginning of the previous menstruation.

The accuracy of the study largely depends on the quality of the instruments, the qualifications of the doctor, as well as on the place of attachment of the ovum.

When pregnancy becomes visually noticeable

The main visual sign of pregnancy – an enlarged tummy – becomes noticeable only at 4-5 months, when the enlarged uterus rises above the pubic bone. But this is the case with the first pregnancy, the subsequent ones will be noticeable earlier, and the belly will grow faster.

With a general examination by a gynecologist, early pregnancy cannot be recognized without additional research methods. However, the answer to the question of whether a gynecologist sees early pregnancy is not so unambiguous.

A qualified doctor can assume pregnancy based on indirect signs: changes in pigmentation, enlargement or engorgement of the mammary glands.

There are complaints of frequent urination or disturbance of intestinal motility. There are other early signs of pregnancy that can be noticed even before the delay – see the full list HERE.

So, the surest way to confirm your expectations is to see a doctor who will prescribe you a blood test for hCG and an ultrasound examination of the pelvic organs. Accompanying your pregnancy from the earliest possible date by a qualified specialist is a prerequisite for its successful resolution.

In the early stages, pregnancy may not be noticed. There is a latent pregnancy when the body does not show signs of conception or when its symptoms can be interpreted differently. This also includes anatomical features – for example, when the fetus is too high and the abdomen does not grow. That is, the expectant mother is unaware of conception. In sports women, the trained muscles of the press can tightly hide the child and his movements, – said Alexandra Yudina1.
