The duel of the season, or how autumn challenges the spine

Windy weather and vitamin deficiency weaken the body, making it vulnerable to diseases. Osteochondrosis is no exception. And since problems with the musculoskeletal system are observed in every fifth person on Earth over 30 years old, back and neck pain during this period becomes one of the most common reasons for seeking medical attention.

Autumn, though not an easy opponent, but all its cunning tricks have long been studied. There may be several reasons for back and neck pain during this cold season.

It would seem that the summer season ends with the summer. This means that you no longer need to sit in the beds in an uncomfortable position. But it was not there. Autumn is harvest time, and this is a serious test for the spine. If a person in a standing position holds a load of 10 kg on outstretched arms, then the force on the spine will be approximately 170 kg, and if the weight of the load is increased to 90 kg, then the pressure on the main axis of the body rises to 1000 kg! It is not surprising that the muscle corset of a person who is not prepared for such loads cannot withstand, and the spine begins a strike.

Weather is another factor affecting the condition of the musculoskeletal system. I forgot to wear a scarf for a walk – I blew out my neck; got cold at the bus stop – got a lumbago in the lower back; wet my feet – provoked chronic inflammation of the intervertebral discs. In addition, bicycles, rollers and scooters are hidden in the garage in the fall, and walks and outdoor activities are postponed until next summer. They are being replaced by TV, books and a computer, and a sedentary lifestyle is known to be the most common cause of osteochondrosis. In the sitting position, the load on the spinal column increases to 140 kg (for comparison: in the supine position, the human spine experiences a pressure of only 20 kg, and in the standing position – 70-80 kg).

Modern medicine is not able to cure osteochondrosis, but it is still possible to stop the progressive disease. A few simple rules will help you avoid relapses. First, you need to choose comfortable shoes. Shoes with heels higher than 4-5 cm increase the chance of curvature of the spine in the lumbar spine, so they are not recommended to be worn for more than 2 hours a day. Secondly, the desktop should not be low so that you do not have to constantly bend over. It is good if the back of the chair reaches the shoulder blades. Thirdly, it is worth abandoning an overly soft bed, choose a mattress of medium hardness. It is better to sleep on your side, with a roller under your head and a small pillow between your knees. In this position, the intervertebral discs, which are deformed during the day due to various loads, are straightened. Fourth, it is very important to learn how to lift weights correctly. The weight must be distributed evenly on both hands. It is better to lift the load from a half-squat, with your legs wide apart, as weightlifters do. And, finally, the strengthening of the muscle corset has not been canceled either. But caution is important here, because with pronounced pathologies of the spine, some physical exercises can only worsen the situation. A safe bet is to sign up for the pool. Swimming strengthens your back muscles while relieving tension from them.

Lack of time often interferes with timely prevention of spinal diseases. Is it any wonder then when a pain in the back or neck suddenly strikes. However, bed rest and warming ointment will not significantly help the cause; more serious artillery is needed. Only a doctor can make an accurate diagnosis and prescribe the correct treatment. For example, in the case of pinching of the nerve roots, exercises on the horizontal bar are useful, but with a hernia or other pronounced changes in the spine, such an extension can only harm.

Neurologists usually prescribe non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) along with massage and exercise therapy. They have antipyretic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects at the same time. Drugs in this group block the formation of substances that trigger inflammatory mechanisms. However, with obvious advantages, NSAIDs also have disadvantages. Taking these medicines relieves only the symptoms of the disease, but does not in any way affect the cause of its occurrence. In addition, the use of NSAIDs negatively affects the mucous membrane of the digestive tract. That is why neurologists, in combination with NSAIDs, prescribe B vitamins, which not only help relieve pain, but also contribute to the restoration of nerve fibers. These biologically active substances are involved in all basic reactions in nerve cells. Lack of B vitamins is incompatible with the regeneration of nerve tissue, and, conversely, high doses of these substances help to quickly defeat the disease, removing the cause of discomfort in the spine.

The balanced composition of B vitamins contains German drug “Milgamma compositum”manufactured by Vervag Pharma. This unique OTC neurotropic complex is available over the counter without a prescription. Vitamins B1 and B6, included in its composition, increase the intensity of biochemical processes at the cellular level, thereby having a beneficial effect on the state of the central and peripheral nervous system. It is noteworthy that in “Milgamma compositum” vitamin B1 is replaced by its derivative benfotiamine, which is converted into a biologically active form inside the cell. Thus, the active substance is better and faster absorbed by the body. Reception “Milgamma compositum” allows to reduce the dose and shorten the duration of treatment with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In complex therapy with NSAIDs “Milgamma compositum” already on the second day helps to relieve pain syndrome, and with supportive use of the drug, back and neck pains can go away forever, because unlike analgesics “Milgamma compositum” not only relieves discomfort in the spine, but treats the disease and restores nerve fibers.
