Dr. Hossein Sadrzadeh of the Boston Medical Center in the US vaccinated COVID-19 with the Moderna vaccine. The doctor experienced an anaphylactic reaction after taking the preparation. In an interview with NBC Boston, the doctor told how he felt right after his immunization.
An allergic reaction to the COVID-19 vaccine
Two SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus vaccines – Moderna and Pfizer – are approved in the United States. This first vaccine was given to Dr. Hossein Sadrzadeh of the Boston Medical Center. Moments after administration of the preparation, the doctor felt worse – he complained of a rapid heartbeat, which he initially attributed to the strong emotions associated with the vaccination. After a while, however, further symptoms appeared – tingling in the throat and tongue, and numbness of the body.
“My blood pressure dropped significantly, so I knew it was anaphylactic shock right away,” he told NCB10 Boston, adding, “My heart rate picked up, I started sweating.” I had such reactions before. I had the EpiPen with me and I applied it myself. Sadrzadeh had an EpiPen with him because he is severely allergic to shellfish.
After this event, the man was taken to the emergency department. The next day he was fine. Sadrzadeh is the first person to develop a severe allergic reaction to Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, according to The New York Times.
Sadrzadeh hopes his story will raise awareness of the vaccine’s potential to induce anaphylaxis not only among drug companies but also among all those with a history of allergies. – I think people need to get vaccinated. At the same time, I would very much like Moderna and Pfizer to investigate this matter more closely in order to prevent such incidents – added the doctor.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention explains who can and shouldn’t get the COVID-19 vaccine. For allergy sufferers, it is as follows: if you have ever had a severe allergic reaction to any component of the COVID-19 vaccine, you should not take that particular vaccine. If you have had a severe allergic reaction to other vaccines or injection therapies, you should discuss the matter carefully with your doctor before taking this particular vaccine.
