– In the vicinity of the picnic, we can still record many deaths from COVID-19. This will be related to the delayed effect of the high number of cases around Easter, believes Dr. Michał Sutkowski, the president of Warsaw Family Physicians.

In Poland, 24 thousand were diagnosed in the last day. 856 new cases of coronavirus infection. 749 patients died.
A week ago, on Saturday April 3, research confirmed 28. 73 new infections and 571 patients died. In turn, two weeks ago, on March 27, it was respectively: 31 thousand. 757 infections and 448 deaths. So far, the highest number of daily infections has been detected on April 1 – 35. 251 new cases. On the other hand, the most deaths in the epidemic so far came on Thursday – April 8. MZ then informed about 954 deaths.
When asked to comment on the current epidemic data, Dr. Sutkowski said that they were predictable.
– I have been talking about such data for a week, which means that the number of new infections will decrease and the number of deaths will remain high – he said.
He added that the latter parameter is the result of the high number of cases between March 25 and April 2. “This is the result of huge infection spikes,” he said.
According to Dr. Sutkowski, this tendency should continue. On the other hand, it will affect the work of health care. He also emphasized that it might be worth considering that the medical staff would also like to go on a picnic.
– You can see that everyone is getting ready for it, but maybe it is also worth thinking that all the doctors, paramedics and nurses would also like to go to a picnic? What would people do if we went on a picnic? – he asked questions.
At the same time, he pointed out that next week the statistics will show the “Christmas effect”, which will translate into a lot of deaths around the picnic.

In his opinion, if we accelerate vaccinations – with the safety of their implementation – this situation will gradually reverse. He also referred to a new legal solution which allows for the qualification of people from other medical professions in addition to doctors for vaccination against COVID-19.
– The qualification should be safe, and today the medical community is not so sure. She says it with the voice of the Supreme Medical Chamber – he said.
The Supreme Medical Council, in its position from mid-March, expressed the opinion that the examination of the patient and qualification for vaccination are the sole professional powers of the doctor. In the opinion of the NRL, such extension of the group qualifying for vaccination creates another breach in the scope of powers previously assigned only to the medical profession, which threatens the safety of patients and lowers the standard of healthcare services provided.
On Friday, an ordinance of the minister of health was published authorizing, in addition to doctors, dentists, nurses, midwives, medical assistants, paramedics or school hygienists to perform qualification tests for vaccination against COVID-19.
Physiotherapists, pharmacists and laboratory diagnosticians will also be eligible if they obtain a document confirming the completion of theoretical training, available on the e-learning platform of the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education.
Students in the fifth or sixth year of studies in the field of medicine, in the third year of first-cycle studies in the field of nursing, who have obtained a document confirming qualification for vaccination, issued by the university providing this education, will also be eligible for vaccination. Students will only be able to conduct a qualification under supervision, incl. doctor.
The regulation also stipulates that physiotherapists, pharmacists, school hygienists and laboratory diagnosticians may vaccinate against COVID-19 if they have obtained a document confirming the completion of theoretical training, available on the e-learning platform of the Medical Center for Postgraduate Education, and the practical training, the program of which has been approved by the Medical Center. This training includes learning to administer the vaccine by intramuscular injection and taking action in the event of a sudden allergic reaction or other life-threatening condition immediately following vaccination.
The minister of health was able to determine the medical professions eligible for vaccination by way of an ordinance due to the amendment to the act on preventing and combating infections and infectious diseases in humans, signed by the president on April 1, 2021.
