The doctor explains whether the flu vaccine will help against the coronavirus

The head of the Department of Infectious Diseases and Clinical Immunology of the Ural State Medical University (USMU), Doctor of Medical Sciences Alebay Sabitov, said that a flu shot, unfortunately, will not help a person to protect themselves from coronavirus.

A person vaccinated against a seasonal illness can still contract COVID-19. However, there are also pluses.

“It will be easier for a person vaccinated against the flu to diagnose and more quickly and correctly determine the tactics of treatment.”

The physician noted that even if a person has already had a coronavirus, he needs to be vaccinated against ordinary flu, as well as against other infections.

Sabitov clarified: the flu vaccine is compatible with the coronavirus vaccine, but it cannot be combined with the tuberculosis vaccine.

Recall that last week, immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov listed diagnoses that cannot be vaccinated against COVID-19.

The physician focused on oncology. Also, vaccination is contraindicated in patients diagnosed with inflammatory and autoimmune diseases, lupus erythematosus and systemic blood diseases.
