The Decalogue of the Supertata – healthy and active not only on Father’s Day!

As part of the nationwide campaign “Prostate for years”, one of the goals of which is to establish the National Day of Prostate Cancer Awareness on June 23, 10 commandments of conscious and responsible fathers caring for their and their children’s health were developed. The Decalogue contains advice from campaign experts on how to spend time with your child in a healthy and active way, not only on Father’s Day.

The Decalogue of the Supertata was developed by campaign experts, Dr. Iwona Skoneczna, MD, from the Department of Cancer of the Urinary System, Oncology Center. Maria Skłodowskiej-Curie in Warsaw and Maria Kosowicz, MSc – clinical psychologist, psychotherapist from the Rehabilitation Department of the Oncology Center – Institute of Maria Skłodowskiej-Curie in Warsaw.

Many men delay seeing a urologist. It is caused by both the embarrassment and the lack of basic knowledge about prostate diseases and the possibility of their treatment. Perhaps that is why prostate cancer is the third cause of death from neoplastic diseases in Poland. This tumor grows relatively slowly, sometimes asymptomatically, so it is so important to detect it in a phase where it can be treated radically and effectively. Early detection of prostate cancer may be performed by regular prostate examination by a urologist. They are recommended at least once a year to people who are over 50 years of age or earlier, in the event of the appearance of symptoms of disorders in urination, or when in the immediate family (father, brother) was diagnosed with prostate cancer at a young age – says Dr. Iwona Skoneczna, MD, from the Department of Cancer of the Urinary System, Cancer Center. Maria Skłodowskiej-Curie in Warsaw, expert of the Prostata campaign for years.

SUPERTATA’S DECALOGUE

1) Spend time actively with your baby!

The time spent together is a unique opportunity to establish a good relationship with your child. A healthy lifestyle and physical activity significantly reduce the risk of developing prostate cancer.

2) Don’t let your child become a passive smoker!

By watching their parents, the children learn their habits. Make sure that your child does not smoke in the future, and do not let smoking contribute to the deterioration of his health. The nicotine contained in cigarettes increases the risk of cancer.

3) Make your son aware that he should contact a urologist in case of any problems with urination.

Above all, lead by example! If you notice any disturbing symptoms, such as blood in your urine, pain or urination too often, see your doctor as soon as possible.

5) Eat healthy meals with your baby.

Preparing meals together and learning about new tastes is a great idea for spending time with your child. Introduce fresh vegetables and fruits to your diet. However, limit a large amount of meat, in particular red meat, fat, milk or too spicy spices.

6) Alcohol – in your family – only for special occasions.

Do not abuse alcohol, especially with children. Alcohol, especially high-alcohol alcohol, is harmful to health – it can, among others, cause swelling of the prostate gland.

7) From an early age, teach your son to care for the hygiene of his intimate surroundings.

Even the simplest activities have to be learned. Show your child how to take care of hygiene. Wash your hands together when you get home and before eating. At the beginning, assist him in the evening toilet and teach him how to be independent.

7) Make the first visit to the urologist (after the age of 50) a natural activity for you and an example for your son.

Children have a very good memory. The awareness that you – the Father, after turning 50, went to a preventive visit to the urologist will make your son treat it as a natural consequence resulting from the next stage in his life. Remember that in the early detection of prostate cancer, regular examination of the prostate gland may be useful. They are recommended at least once a year to people over 50, in the event of the appearance of symptoms of disorders in urination, or when prostate cancer was diagnosed in the immediate family at a young age.

8) Make your son aware that having a permanent sexual partner reduces the risk of developing prostate cancer.

Children often duplicate their parents’ patterns. By observing you in a successful relationship, your son will most likely want to create a similar one.

9) Talk to your baby about sex.

Don’t let your child find out about sex from classmates or online message boards. Talk to him about it so that he wisely initiates and then gets a lot of fun from your intimate life. Sexual abstinence is one of the risk factors for developing prostate cancer.

10) Don’t avoid difficult topics when talking to your family.

It has been known for a long time that prevention is better than cure. Talk to your son, but also to your father, about prostate prevention. Break the taboo. Make your loved ones aware and set a good example.

By taking part in this action, I want to convince you that even quite understandable fears and fears of men should not be stronger than the need to take care of their own health. As much for your own comfort as for the convenience, happiness and community of whole families. It is better to overcome your fears and shame so as not to let prostate diseases become a source of inconvenience or even misfortune for the whole family of a patient who did not undertake prophylaxis or treatment in the right time. – says Maciej Szczęsny, sports coach and commentator, privately the father of Jan and Wojciech Szczęsny.

We care about the health of men, because they are usually fathers, husbands, grandparents, and we women would like them to live as long as possible. The Prostate Campaign for Years is also a preventive campaign, which aims to persuade men to think about their health. As part of the campaign, we show that the topic that seems embarrassing does not have to be that way. I believe that the involvement of famous people in this type of campaign will help break the taboo associated with this disease – underlinea Iwona Guzowska, former Polish kick-boxer, currently politician, member of the Sejm of the XNUMXth and XNUMXth term.

I appreciate the Foundation’s attempt to speak openly about such a difficult topic, primarily because prostate cancer is not a disease that affects one person, but also emotionally affects loved ones. Therefore, I subscribe to the initiative to make Father’s Day the National Day of Prostate Cancer Awareness – says Maciej Damięcki, actor, privately the father of Matilda and Mateusz Damięcki.

We also encourage you to watch the statements of Włodzimierz Szaranowicz and Iwona Guzowska, who are the ambassadors of the Prostata na lata campaign, on the Wygrajmy Zdrowie Foundation film channel www.youtube.com/user/wygrajmyzdrowie
