On February 28, the deadline for the hospitality industry to adapt to the new regulations established by Royal Decree 895/2013 on the presentation of olive oils to the final consumer will expire. As of March 1, in bars, restaurants and cafes, only olive oils can be offered to the customer in formats with unfillable plug or in single-use formats.
Coinciding with this date, the Spanish Olive Oil Interprofessional launches an information campaign on the advantages for the consumer of the use of containers with non-refillable stoppers – in formats of one liter, 750 cl, 500 cl, 250cl … – o single-use formats and properly labeled in the restoration. The slogan of the campaign, which has the collaboration of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment is: “In bars and restaurants, the non-refillable cap tells you so. Olive Oils ”.
Know what is consumed
The objective is to inform the consumer of a measure that is clearly in their benefit, so that they can know to which commercial category the oils correspond (extra virgin, virgin or olive oil), the name of the packer that guarantees the product, its date of preferential consumption, and even, in the case of some extra virgin, its variety or if it is protected by a Denomination of Origin.
A measure that, in the opinion of the Interprofessional, in no case will entail an appreciable cost increase for the consumer: “It is perfectly acceptable. In return, you not only get a full quality guarantee, but also a more hygienic and attractive presentation ”, says Pedro Barato, president of the Spanish Olive Oil Interprofessional.
