Pink nursery, white living room – stereotypes in the interior are a proven thing, but so boring! Let’s try to find new shades for each room in the apartment. Designer, decorator Elena Teplitskaya will help us.

“There are no standards or general rules here: it all depends on the style of housing, color preferences of the owners,” says Elena, “but you should focus on the location of the windows and the illumination of the room. If the windows of the room face north, the shady or low-light side, then it is better to choose soft, warm shades. If the side is south, sunny, then the colors should be cold tones. This will help balance the overall perception of the home. ”
If the side is north, pastel shades and their combinations are suitable – peach, terracotta, lilac-yellow, yellow-beige, pink-lilac. They will create a feeling of calmness and comfort. If the windows face south, pastel cold colors are good: mint, violet, turquoise, icy pink.
Avoid using bright colors such as poppy red and other high activity colors in your sleeping room. Otherwise, you won’t be able to relax in your own bedroom until you turn off the lights. If you want red, you can take its soft berry-fruit versions – raspberry, cranberry – and use it in a very dosage.
You can get away from the usual white and creamy shades and make one of the walls active, bright, for example, cobalt blue (and the rest are lemon yellow) or green (and the rest are pale turquoise or light purple). If your living room is decorated in Provence style, you can make it more expressive. On the south side, add green details, for example, put bright green vases, and on the north, add lilac color with splashes of yellow glass to the interior. Dull tones are contraindicated in the living room, for example, dull gray or brown, because this is a place for a holiday and receiving guests.
If it is small, like most people, you need to visually make the room larger, that is, choose light colors that increase the space. On the side with little sun – lemon yellow, pistachio, in the south – cool green, turquoise, blue. At the same time, the surfaces of the kitchen can be glossy – this will create an additional volume, the effect of theatrical scenery. The kitchen is the soul of the house, the place where the whole family gathers in the evenings. Try to make it positive. Imagine how turquoise furniture and wallpaper are combined with lemon yellow countertops and lemon yellow mosaics that lined the kitchen backsplash.
Do not let orange into the kitchen, because it makes you crave and you will start to overeat. White is also contraindicated for another reason: it completely discourages the desire to eat.
It is better to ask the child what colors he wants to live in. The teenager will most likely choose white, gray, black, red colors. A 6-year-old girl will like purple, her peer boy will like red and green. Ideal for a nursery – a balance between blue and purple – in these colors the child feels best. You should not design a hard interior for children, for example, for a boy in the form of a ship’s cabin, and for girls in the form of a Barbie’s bedroom, otherwise it stops development. It is better to make an interior that can change over time, for example, there are wallpapers that can be painted. Let the child draw and develop along with the interior.
In most apartments, they are small and cramped, so it is better to make them light and with an abundance of gloss – sparkling details, shiny wallpaper, large mirrors. If the hallway is too long, you can make the ceiling and walls light blue, and the end wall yellow, as this color narrows the space and your rectangle approaches a square. Black is not recommended in the hallway, otherwise it will resemble a hole, but in details this color can look stylish – for example, a black lacquered chest of drawers against a background of snow-white walls.
Win-win options are ivory, blue, yellow and white. You can arrange a bathroom in an urban style – pale green walls, and crimson tiles on the floor. Or a bright blue cobalt floor, and in support – walls with blue drawings, and let it be better not Gzhel, but Dutch patterns – this will make the interior interesting.
