The child has a fever and a cough without snot: explanation of the pediatrician, strong high
The onset of a high temperature can be sudden and for no apparent reason. In fact, this phenomenon is not uncommon and can be caused by viruses, complications and other factors.
What is the explanation given by pediatricians
The appearance of intense fever means that an infection has entered the body. The immune system is activated and thus tries to fight foreign bodies. And each such case is a reason to see a doctor, no matter what the reason is. When it comes to the health of a child, there is no need to hesitate.
If a child has a fever and a cough without snot, this may be due to a sore throat. Often it begins asymptomatically, and only the appearance of a fever gives a signal that the child is sick. Later, there is redness in the throat, white bloom on the tonsils, their swelling, dry cough.
Another possible cause is complications. If the child has had acute respiratory viral infections, did not recover, or the viruses lived in his body without symptoms, then the infection passes lower into the respiratory tract, causing pneumonia or bronchitis.
This phenomenon is very dangerous, requires antibiotic treatment, only as prescribed by a doctor and under his supervision. Hospitalization may be required.
Infectious diseases such as chickenpox or rubella can also cause symptoms. They are also accompanied by the appearance of a skin rash. These are very common childhood diseases, usually transmitted during an epidemic among team members – a class, a group to a kindergarten. After recovery, a person acquires immunity to them for life.
Temperature without symptoms – what is the reason
When there is no cough or runny nose, and the temperature is much higher than normal, the reasons may be as follows:
- Intestinal infection. In this case, pay attention to the child’s chair. If it is liquid, foamy, abundant, it is best to call a doctor at home or an ambulance. This condition is especially dangerous for young children, as it causes dehydration, which is life-threatening for newborns. Later, poisoning may be accompanied by vomiting, and everything begins only with an increase in temperature.
- An allergic reaction can cause a fever. This is possible in infants during the introduction of complementary foods, if the mother ate some kind of allergen and fed the child, or while using medications. May be accompanied by a skin rash. This is possible as a reaction to the vaccine, it is quite acceptable, but you still need to tell your pediatrician about it.
- If a toddler’s teeth are teething, it often causes a severe fever. You can relieve the child’s condition with an antipyretic and anesthetic, a special gum ointment with lidocaine for local treatment.
- Overheating of the body often causes fever in young children. This could be due to prolonged exposure to the sun or in a stuffy room. If the baby is too warmly dressed, wrapped up, then most likely his temperature will rise. Thermoregulation in children occurs differently, not in the same way as in adults, so the body gives such a reaction.
Less commonly, fever is caused by diseases of the internal organs, for example, the kidneys. You can determine them only by passing the necessary tests.
It is recommended to bring down the temperature only when it rises more than 38 degrees.
