In recent years, we can observe a growing interest in both a healthy lifestyle and a variety of diets. Professional dieting is done by nutritionists who help both people who want to go on a diet to lose some unnecessary kilograms, and those who need to change their diet due to their disease or ailment. However, there are diets that, with the help of appropriate sources, we can arrange ourselves. One of such diets, which is becoming more and more popular in Poland, is the Budwig diet. What is this type of nutrition? What is worth knowing about the Budwig diet?
What is the Budwig diet?
The Budwig diet is included in the therapeutic diets and is called the oil and protein diet. Some say that it prevents the formation of cancerous changes and has many other health properties. The Budwig diet is composed in such a way as to provide our body with all the necessary ingredients, i.e. vitamins, carbohydrates, unsaturated fats, fiber, minerals, microelements and many others.
The creator of the Budwig diet was Dr. Johanna Budwig, who lived in the years 1909-2003, who gave the name of the diet itself. Dr. Johanna Budwig was a well-known and respected physician in the field of fat biochemistry.
Who should follow the Budwig diet?
The Budwig Diet can be used by various people, including those suffering from many diseases and ailments. First of all, it is recommended for people who suffer from cancer, due to its anti-cancer properties. What are the rules of the Budwig diet?
The Budwig diet consists of strictly defined nutrition rules, but a special role in it is played by Budwig paste, which was developed by Dr. Budwig. It consists of lean curd and linseed oil, which is a rich source of omega acids. Fats beneficial to the human body are a very important component of this diet, which is why we must pay special attention to them.
The Budwig diet assumes the use of only natural fats of plant origin, so there is no question of butter, refined oils or lard. In addition to the already mentioned linseed oil, olive oil and other vegetable fats are also valuable.
While on the Budwig diet for preventive purposes, we should consume about 1 to 2 tablespoons of linseed oil a day. If we are following a diet that supports mild diseases and ailments, the recommended amount is 4-5 tablespoons per day. Severely ill people should consume about 6-8 tablespoons of linseed oil a day. It is important that it is a cold-pressed oil, because only such linseed oil retains its full health-promoting properties. Water is also very important. In the diet of Dr. Budwig, it is recommended to drink at least 2,5 liters of water a day. Water can also be replaced with juices or green tea.
What products can you eat on the Budwig diet?
As we have already mentioned, cold-pressed vegetable oils are one of the most important products in the Budwig diet. The second important component of this diet, which we should eat every day, is lean cottage cheese. The combination of these two ingredients allows us to best absorb the valuable omega-3 fatty acids.
In addition to these two ingredients, the Budwig diet also includes raw and cooked vegetables, dried and fresh fruits and fruit juices, linseed, oatmeal, skimmed dairy products, gluten-free groats, and nuts. Dr. Budwig emphasized that the products we eat should only come from healthy, ecological crops.
What products should be avoided when using the Budwig diet?
When using the Dr. Budwig diet, we must eliminate many products from our diet. First of all, it is worth forgetting about highly processed foods and those that contain preservatives or raising substances. Also prohibited are: sugar, meat, white flour products, such as pasta or wheat bread, as well as stimulants. Contraindicated are also margarines and refined fats, butter and animal fats.
