The word «patriarchy» is usually used with a hint of condemnation, as something hostile to women, freedom and nature. A psychologist and priest Andrei Lorgus puts a completely different meaning into it.
He understands by patriarchy the transfer of the values of the family to new generations, primarily the value of fatherhood, which consists of three components: orientation towards development (and not pleasure), the search for meaning (sometimes despite comfort) and the education of curiosity. The twentieth century, its revolutions, terror and wars took many men. In the place where the image of the father should be, there is a gap not only in the minds of children raised by mothers, but also in a culture that replaces responsibility with success, truth with force, and force with rudeness. Andrey Lorgus makes a determined attempt to return the meaning of fatherhood, first of all to men, but also to women, inviting them to talk “about men, about a man’s calling to be a father, about the difficulties and joys of fatherhood, about fatherly love and love for a father.”
