Pregnancy or amenorrhea week?
39 weeks is the duration of a pregnancy, or 41 weeks of amenorrhea (SA). The disconnect that you often observe between these two dating systems is easy to understand. This is because doctors count weeks of amenorrhea (SA). To estimate the start date of your pregnancy, they are therefore based on the first day of your last period. As for the “weeks of pregnancy” (SG), they are calculated from the presumed day of fertilization. If you count in “SG”, it will be necessary to add 2 weeks to know your date of SA (ie 21 SG = 23 SA). Simple, right?
The key weeks of your pregnancy
Week after week, big changes are happening. Between the 9th and 11th SG (11-13 WA), for example, you will have your first ultrasound: the dating ultrasound. An important moment which seals your first meeting with your baby and which enables any abnormalities to be detected. Between the 14th and 17th week of pregnancy, you will be able to find out the sex of your baby. At 23 SG, your baby has almost reached his threshold of viable prematurity. And at 37 weeks your unborn baby is mature (clinically). If he arrives earlier than expected, he will not need assistance to live.
And you, where are you ? Take stock of the progress of your pregnancy, week after week.
