Solving the issue of pumping water in a private house is one of the most important. On the farm, it is necessary to take water from the well and pump out liquid effluents from the cesspool. Pumping equipment copes well with such tasks. The best submersible pump will make life easier for the owner of the cottage and save him money and time.
The main types of submersible pumps
There are surface and submersible electric pumps. If the former are low-power and primitive, then the latter are the result of the work of engineers in the field of fluid mechanics. Submersible hydraulic machines are located deep in the well or well. Their active part is located in the thickness of the liquid, therefore, such devices are subject to stringent requirements for waterproofing and wear time.
Engineers distinguish four main types of submersible pumps. All of them differ in the principle of operation and design.
Video “How to choose a pump for a well”
In this video, a specialist will tell you how to choose a pump for a well.
Vibration
These devices are the simplest in design, as well as the cheapest. There are practically no moving elements in them, in particular an electric motor.
The machine performs the pumping of liquid due to the vibration of a special piston. An alternating electric current in the winding of the device magnetizes the armature, which begins to oscillate up and down. These vibrations are mechanically transmitted to a special piston rod. When the piston goes down, an area of reduced pressure is created in the working chamber of the hydraulic machine. Because of this, fluid is forced into the chamber. During the reverse movement, the liquid is ejected from the device into the pipe and is fed upwards. Constant iterations of this cycle give the fluid flow for which such a pump was installed.
Due to the simplicity and cheapness of the design, such hydraulic devices have disadvantages:
- Devices are very critical to tolerate impurities. They should only be used for clean water.
- The vibration that occurs during operation destroys the casing of the pump itself and the well wall over time.
- That is why such hydraulic machines are considered short-lived, with a limited service life. But given the low cost, they are easy to replace.
It is best to use vibration pumps for pumping liquid from the pool. Also, the device will cope with the task of watering plants on the site.
Centrifugal
These hydraulic pumping machines are more advanced. The active part of the mechanism is a special wheel with blades. Such blades distribute the liquid throughout the chamber. Due to centrifugal force, water is thrown onto the walls of the chamber and thrown into the outlet hose. In the center, an area of low atmospheric pressure is created, which draws in new portions of moisture.
These hydraulic pumps are very powerful and are able to lift the liquid column to a great height. However, the price of such devices bites. But due to the high efficiency and high-quality assembly, these devices are quite popular with most manufacturers.
Such machines easily tolerate moderate contamination in liquids, do not create additional vibration, and therefore do not destroy the walls of wells and boreholes. The noise level of centrifuges is also low.
Screw
The design of this pump is rooted in the depths of history. This mechanism was invented by the ancient Greek engineer and mechanic Archimedes. The main active element of such a hydraulic machine is a special screw. Driven by an electric motor, this screw captures the liquid medium and lifts it up, directly to the outlet hose. The main feature of screw pumps is that they can easily pump not only clean hydraulic media, but also viscous media.
They are not durable. The presence of a large number of rubbing parts quickly leads to their wear. Yes, and such a mechanism requires constant maintenance. That is why this type of hydraulic units is rarely found in the domestic sphere. Most often they are used in industrial facilities, where they belong.
Vortex
Vortex hydraulic pumps are an improved modification of ordinary centrifugal pumps. Their difference lies in the fact that they have a slightly different shape of the blades, and there are special grooves in the walls of the chamber. The liquid flowing down from the blades into these grooves is additionally accelerated due to vortex microflows. Therefore, the pressure of the water column in such pumps is much higher, and they are more efficient. But these machines are not cheap. But in cases where the result is more important than the cost, such a pump is indispensable.
Selection criteria: we determine the key parameters
In order for your submersible pump to successfully perform its functions, you need to decide on a number of parameters:
- Parameters of the water-bearing soil layer. Ideally, your well or well should be drilled by professionals. They will determine all the characteristics (in particular, the depth of the well or well), provide a technical passport for the finished product. The well must be filled with water so that it does not empty during long-term operation of the pump. After all, dry running is very harmful for pumps. In this case, the depth can be dynamic (changes over time) and static (unchanging). Do not forget about such a parameter as debit – the amount of liquid that enters the intake in a certain period of time. Soil characteristics should also be taken into account.
- current water consumption. To determine the required power of the device and not overpay, calculate how many water consumption points you have in your house. Count all tenants and add possible guests of the dwelling. Do not forget about the garden plot, where water is also needed for watering plants. Calculate all these values and add a margin of 15–20% to them. This will be the desired flow rate for your pumping device.
- Water pressure. All pumps have such a characteristic as water pressure. To calculate it, add up the depth from the water intake point to the location of the device. Add to this the length of the horizontal pipes and the amount of lift to the faucet or household appliances.
