Types of pumps for wells
Downhole pumps come in two main types: surface and submersible. Both of them have a number of design differences and are used in different conditions.
Surface
This type of pumping equipment is of four types:
- Hand pumps. They do not have a motorized drive, they are driven by human muscle power. Indispensable where there are problems with electricity, but not applicable for wells deeper than 8 m.
- Self-priming pumps. These hydraulic machines for pumping liquid do not come into direct contact with the aquatic environment. A simple electric centrifugal pump is placed on the surface, and a special water intake hose is lowered into the well. Such pumps have a habit of overheating, so it is necessary to monitor the temperature of their casing.
- Household pumping stations. They are a self-priming pump, which is equipped with a special hydraulic accumulator. This accumulator allows the system to maintain a constant water pressure. Such pumping stations can already be used to organize autonomous water supply at home. However, they can work at well depths up to 10 m.
- Pump stations with injection elements. Thanks to the built-in injectors, they increase the water pressure. But such hydraulic machines are more expensive.
Submersible
It often happens that the wells from which water is taken are of great depth. Surface pumping equipment is not suitable here. For such purposes, submersible pumps are used. They are also divided into four types:
- vibration models. Inexpensive devices that allow you to raise the liquid to a height of about 20 m. By virtue of their design, they work due to vibration, which negatively affects the walls of the well. Also, such hydraulic machines can deteriorate due to water with mechanical inclusions.
- Centrifugal pump units. They are quite expensive, but they allow you to create a high pressure of the liquid, which rises to a height of up to 100 m. Due to the absence of vibration waves, they do not destroy the walls of the wells and are not sensitive to mechanical impurities in the water.
- Screw pumps. They were built according to the classical scheme used by Archimedes. The liquid is pumped into them using a special screw, so such hydraulic devices pump not only clean water, but also viscous liquids. These pumps require constant maintenance and often fail. In domestic conditions, they are practically not used.
- vortex pumps. This is a modification of centrifugal hydraulic machines. Due to the presence of special grooves on the walls of the working chamber, the liquid is pumped out with a very high pressure. The pumps also cope with gas bubbles in the hydraulic environment, they do not harm them.
Criteria for the right choice
In order for a deep or surface pump to work correctly, consider all parameters. Take it seriously.
Characteristics of the aquifer
Before choosing pumping hydraulic equipment, refer to the technical data sheet for the well. You will have it if it was drilled by professionals. The characteristics of the aquifer have an important influence. These include the depth of the mine with water. It can be dynamic, that is, dependent on a variety of reasons, and static, not changing over time.
In addition, you should consider how much water comes into the intake at a time. This parameter is called debit. The soil near the well also matters when choosing a water pump.
