- How to choose a magnetic mount dash cam
- Popular questions and answers
Despite the wide variety of DVRs on a suction cup or a sticker, motorists are increasingly choosing models with the most modern mount – magnetic. A feature of such a device is that only a bracket with a power wire is attached to the windshield with a suction cup or 3M adhesive tape, and the registrar itself is attached to it with a powerful magnet.
This is very convenient, as you can always quickly remove the device when leaving the car. In addition to high mobility, the advantage of such models is a long service life, fastening strength and the ability to adjust the position of the device.
The disadvantages can be high cost, large dimensions (they will close the view), and weak magnets (they will not hold the recorder during emergency braking or bumps in the road).
If you still have to buy a DVR, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the best models of DVRs with a magnetic mount, according to KP.

How to choose a magnetic mount dash cam
When choosing a DVR, first of all, pay attention to the technical characteristics, dimensions, design, additional functions. If, when buying a DVR, you decide to give preference to a device with a magnetic mount, then you should consider the following points:
- The main requirement for such a design is the presence of powerful magnets. The device must be securely fixed with magnets and maintain its position, despite the unevenness of the roadway, emergency braking or other unforeseen situations. The strongest magnets are neodymium (an alloy of neodymium, iron and boron), but not all manufacturers indicate the type of magnetic alloy in the product specifications.
- Power cable connection method. The power cable is connected to the bracket, and the DVR receives power from it, or the power connector is located in the DVR itself.
- How to fix the bracket to the glass – on a vacuum suction cup or double-sided tape. Both methods have their advantages and disadvantages, usually the mount is included in the basic package of the DVR.
Popular questions and answers
When choosing a technically complex device, it is not always enough information or reviews on the Internet. Therefore, the CP turned to Maxim Sokolov, expert at VseInstrumenty.ru online hypermarket, and he answered the most frequent questions of buyers.
What parameters should you pay attention to first of all?
• Camera resolution – Responsible for the quality of the video material. The minimum resolution that cameras can offer is SD (640×480), medium quality is HD (1280×750), high quality is Full HD (1920×1080), higher quality is Super HD (2304 x 1296). However, it is important to note that high resolution is not always good. Firstly, the place on the memory card will be downloaded faster. Secondly, there is a risk that the moment of the accident will not be recorded just because of the lack of memory. Therefore, experienced motorists prefer models with HD resolution. They are budget-friendly and the picture quality remains at a high level. For example, you can easily see the license plate of a car that tried to escape from the scene of an accident.
• Frame frequency – responsible for the smoothness of the picture. The standard frame rate of DVRs is 30 fps, which is suitable for the vast majority of users. The picture will be smooth, but when driving at night or at high speed, a slight blur may appear. There are models with 60 fps. With such cameras, videos take up twice as much space on the memory card as when recording at 30 fps. However, even at high speeds, frames will not be blurred – this is a big plus.
• Viewing angle – Responsible for the width of the frame capture. Averages reach 100 – 140 °. This is quite enough to capture neighboring road lanes. There are DVRs with indicators of 160 – 180 °, but in this case it is worth considering that a large viewing angle will significantly reduce the picture quality.
• Display size – Responsible for setting up and controlling the camera. Typically, the camera display is 1,5 – 3,5 inches. Most often, motorists choose models with a display of 2 inches, since this size greatly simplifies the management and viewing of footage. In cases where there is no display, you will need to use a computer or phone, which is not always convenient, especially in situations where recording is required here and now.
• Recording cycle – Responsible for recording time. The camera records video until the memory on the flash drive is full. Then the recording is over the old files. This feature is convenient not only because you will always have a record of the last hours of driving, but also because you do not need to purchase expensive flash drives with a large amount of memory, 16 GB is enough.
• Auto power on and off – Responsible for the operation of the camera. Almost all modern models of DVRs are equipped with this function. Its main advantage is that the camera turns on after starting the engine, so you don’t have to worry that the accident that happened was not recorded.
What is the best material for DVR mounts?
Scotch tape is also a reliable mounting option, but it can leave marks on the windshield, which will not be so easy to clean, explains Maxim Sokolov.
The least durable option is a vacuum suction cup. If you do not wipe the windshield before installation, the camera may constantly fall, and this is fraught with damage to the device and even its failure.
