LED light sources are safe and economical. Such lamps have a chip to which two semiconductors are connected – through them an electric current is supplied to the built-in crystal to produce light. This method leaves behind unsafe and energy-consuming incandescent lamps, as well as mercury and energy-saving ones, which contain components harmful to nature. LEDs also lead in terms of durability – they do not need to be replaced for years. That is why more and more often they are used as the main source of light in apartments, private houses, offices, enterprises, they are used for decorative lighting and lighting of advertising signs.
The main advantages of LED lamps:
- do not heat up and are fireproof;
- when turned on, they immediately give a bright light;
- provide a uniform glow without flickering;
- 5-10 times more economical than incandescent lamps;
- service life is up to 50 hours;
- a large selection of sizes;
- the ability to control the intensity and color temperature of light.

How to choose an LED lamp
The main parameters of LED lamps, significant for the choice, we asked to formulate Maxim Sokolov, expert of the online hypermarket VseInstrumenty.ru.
— There are 4 fundamental characteristics of LED lamps.
Base type. It can be recognized by a sticker on the lighting fixture or on its cartridge. You can unscrew an old light bulb and read the markings on it. LEDs are presented in a large assortment and cover almost all types of socles – from standard E14 and E27 to G4, G9, etc.
Bulb shape. Depending on the size and type of the plafond, you can choose any type of lamp: pear, ball, candle, candle in the wind, etc. Pay attention to the length – it is important that the bulb does not protrude beyond the plafond.
Power. LED lamps have low power, as they consume very little electricity. When choosing, it is worth focusing not on how much the lamp consumes, but on its equivalent value to the incandescent lamp familiar to us. For example, 12 watts of LED is equivalent to 100 watts of incandescent light.
Colorful temperature. It all depends on what kind of light is familiar and comfortable for you. You need to focus on the number of kelvins:
- up to 3200 K – warm white;
- up to 4500 K – neutral white;
- up to 6000 K – bright white;
- from 6000 K – cold white.
Some LED lamps have the ability to control the luminous flux. For example, dimmable lamps can change the light intensity for dim or bright light. Colored RGB lamps are able to change color – they are used in design solutions, when decorating holidays and shop windows. The so-called smart lamps are synchronized via Wi-Fi with a smartphone and become part of the smart home system: such lighting can be controlled using voice assistants.
