How to choose a hood for the kitchen
Will give practical advice on choosing the best hood Alexander Konnov, head of the kitchen assembly and installation team.
Types of hoods
So, after this review, you probably already realized that hoods are very different. Let’s, to consolidate the material, once again go over the main types of hoods.
Wall hood – mounted on the wall above the cooking surface (that is, above the stove). The most common option. Now gaining popularity inclined hoods – They look very modern and noble, it’s harder to hit your head on them while cooking, and with perimeter suction, they also work damn efficiently.
Mounted hood – this is what we are used to seeing in kitchens from time immemorial. Cheap, cheerful, saves space, great for small kitchen spaces. Retractable hood – mounted in a cabinet above the stove, takes up little space. It has a movable front panel, which, when pulled out, turns on the hood itself, and at the same time increases the suction area.
Corner wall hood – mounted in a corner, provided that the hob is located there. Ceiling hoods are also suitable for solving this problem. Ceiling hood – mounted on the ceiling. This is a great solution if you have an island-style kitchen or if for some reason it is not possible to install a wall-mounted hood.
Ceiling suspended hood – is also suspended from the ceiling, with the only difference being that it hangs on cables and can only filter the air. This is a stylish and unusual solution. There are models in which the design is also movable on rollers. At the beginning of cooking, you lower the hood lower, and at the end you raise it so that it does not interfere, but the prices for them bite very much.
Size matters
Choosing the right hood for your kitchen is a very important task, you need to approach it as responsibly as possible. If you choose built-in hoods, then the size must be smaller than the size of the cabinet in which it will be mounted. Take care in advance whether the cord reaches the outlet, as well as the correct location of the air outlet, and whether there is enough space for the box above the hood.
Performance
This parameter is calculated using a fairly simple formula. So, according to sanitary standards, the air in the room should be updated 10-12 times per hour, so you must first calculate the volume of your kitchen, and multiply the resulting number of cubic meters by these conditional 10-12 times. It turns out that for an ordinary kitchen of 10 sq.m. with a ceiling height of 2,5 meters, the formula will look like this: 10 × 2,5 × 10 u250d XNUMX cubic meters. – such a minimum performance should be at the hood.
It is important to remember a few things:
1) For a filter hood, this is all very conditional, since it does not renew the air
2) For a ceiling hood, it is better to further multiply the result by 1,3 in order to correctly take into account the length of the duct and other boring parameters.
3) The power of the hood should be with a solid margin so that the required performance is not achieved at maximum engine speed, because in this case almost all hoods buzz like Boeings on takeoff.
A trifle, but nice
There are a few more parameters that are worth paying attention to, but they do not deserve a separate discussion, due to the utmost clarity for everyone. Pay attention to the type of filters. Decide how important built-in lighting is to you. The location and type of buttons, the presence of an intensive mode, a timer, a display, additional pipes, adapters and plugs. By the way, almost every hood comes with a stencil with holes in order to correctly mark and drill the fasteners in the wall – a trifle, but nice!
