Holidays are associated with a period of carefreeness and freedom, but it is worth taking care of appropriate contraception at this time. One of the most convenient holiday methods of protection are contraceptive patches, mainly for the summer, which is supported by several significant arguments.
The use of patches is known as transdermal contraception. It gains in value during the summer because the patch is invisible, so putting on bikinis and more skimpy summer outfits will not be a problem. In addition, it is replaced only once a week, which is a convenient and comfortable solution for all those who are forgetful or simply do not want to worry about having to take a pill every day at a certain time of the day.
In addition, we do not have to worry that the patch will peel off or get damaged, because it is waterproof and has a UV filter, so you can swim, play sports, sunbathe without fear.
How do contraceptive patches work?
Certainly, many women look quite warily at the method based on sticking something to the skin, especially those who are used to internal application (tablets, discs, etc.). The hormones in the patch are released into the bloodstream directly through the skin. Thanks to this, we do not expose our digestive system (as in the case of pills), we also have contraceptive certainty, because there are no digestive system disorders (diarrhea, vomiting) that could interfere with its operation.
What’s more, the level of hormones in the blood in the case of patches remains constant and is properly selected. The transdermal method offers:
- good body tolerance,
- No hormone surges
- High level of protection against pregnancy,
- No estrogen-dependent side effects (chest pain or headache),
- The Pearl Index (the effectiveness of a given method) shows that out of 100 women surveyed, only 0,4 became pregnant. The actual efficiency is 0,76.
- We apply the patch only once a week, so it is not a difficult method to use.
The contraceptive patch can be placed in one of three places on the skin: on the stomach, arm or buttocks. You must not stick it in the breast area, you must also be careful that it does not catch on clothes. You should not put the patch on the same place twice in a row. Store the slices in a dry and dark place, do not keep them in the refrigerator or freeze.
