The best Chinese smartphones in 2022
The Chinese have already caught up in quality, and in some cases even surpassed the famous brands. We talk about the best Chinese smartphones in 2022: from flagship models to more budget ones

Premium models of smartphones are not affordable for everyone, and it does not always make sense to spend money on them. The same or almost the same functionality and quality can be obtained for a much lower amount. What should you pay attention to first of all?

Previously, buyers associated Chinese products with something of poor quality and disposable, but now the situation is completely different. The editors of Healthy Food Near Me compiled their own rating of the best smartphones from China in 2022, based on expert recommendations.

It is worth noting that when we talk about the duration of a smartphone without recharging, we mean “standard use”. It means using a messenger, surfing the Internet, as well as finding the phone in the background.

How to choose a Chinese smartphone

The choice of products on the market today is huge. Although Chinese smartphones are cheaper than products from companies from other countries, few people like to throw money away. First of all, attention should be paid to brand name, firmware features и originality goods.

Brand name

To date, dozens of Chinese companies produce smartphones. Some of them are quite functional and are not inferior to the flagship models of well-known manufacturers. Others are cheaper, but no less quality. The most popular on the market today is the products of such companies as Huawei, Xiaomi, Meizu, OnePlus, LeEco. Slightly less popular smartphones include Newman, Doogee, UMI, vkWorld and Oukitel.

Firmware features

Some Chinese phones do not have localization, so there may be problems with the settings. This happens especially often with Xiaomi smartphones. For example, the MIUI operating system installed on them exists in two implementations – China (with exclusively Chinese and English languages) and Global (where there are dozens of languages). It is better to immediately select a smartphone with Global firmware, otherwise you will have to reinstall the system.

In addition, some Chinese smartphones have a problem with the lack of Google services. Even devices from more reliable manufacturers (Xiaomi, Huawei and Meizu) often come without the Google Play app store pre-installed, as well as a contact sync provider and other useful services. In some devices, they can be installed independently, in others – it will not work.

Beware of imitations!

When ordering phones directly from Chinese sites, you need to read the description very carefully. Sometimes a suspiciously low price is a signal that a product may be fake. And visually it will not be distinguished from the original. The device is equipped with a large amount of RAM and a powerful processor, but during operation it slows down and quickly “dies” – the device is not balanced.

It is impossible to guarantee that when ordering online, the user will not receive a fake. But if the model costs an order of magnitude cheaper than its usual market price, it is probably a replica.

Popular questions and answers

Healthy Food Near Me asked an expert to answer the most popular questions from users Evgeny Kharitonov, editor-in-chief of Ferra.ru, a publication about gadgets.

Is it worth buying Chinese “copies” and “analogues” of famous brands?
Chinese “replicas” of popular smartphones are not worth buying for several reasons. Firstly, such models are always of low quality. If a fake smartphone works for at least six months, it can already be considered a unique long-liver. Secondly, constructively, such models are often problematic. Starting from firmware failures and poor-quality soldering of the microcircuit (sometimes the charging port starts to fail in such models), ending with the rapid degradation of equipment – there are often instances in which the processor overheats the touch layer (touchscreen) of the display under load, and it stops responding to pressing. It is also necessary to distinguish “copies” from smartphones of world-famous Chinese brands that produce models that are similar in design to the iPhone or Samsung. Even if a Xiaomi or Huawei smartphone looks like an iPhone, it will not be considered a “replica”, because copying in such models is limited to the outline of the case, but not firmware or other functions, Yevgeny Kharitonov is sure.
How to Russify a Chinese smartphone?
For “factory” smartphones of major brands such as Xiaomi, BBK (which includes Oppo, Vivo, Realme, OnePlus), ZTE, which do not have translation and Google services, there is almost always a “European” firmware. To turn a “Chinese” smartphone into a “European” one, it is enough to find and install the firmware from the European model instead of the standard one. Sometimes a “localization patch” is enough (most often in Realme devices): the language and Google services are simply added to the firmware of a Chinese smartphone, and specific applications are removed in return. Such a smartphone cannot be updated to new versions of Android: if it receives an update via Wi-Fi and the owner agrees to update the firmware, most likely the device will either return to Chinese again or fail. If we are talking about “copies” and “analogues” of famous brands, then the universal way to add the language to such Android-based smartphones is the MoreLocale application.
How to “overclock” a Chinese smartphone?
According to the expert, modern smartphones are already released with the most overclocked processors, unfortunately, you can’t squeeze more of them. The only way to make a slow smartphone work faster is to install amateur firmware based on “pure” Android – LineageOS. There are no unnecessary Chinese applications, no heavy design (icons, themes, animations in excessively high quality) – it’s just Android with support for calls and SMS, on which the owner can install the applications he needs from Google Play. Not all smartphones can boast support for LineageOS firmware, but large manufacturers most often allow the installation of lightweight firmware on their devices.
