There is hardly a viewer who does not like adventure films. This category of cinema is interesting because it can organically combine different genres: science fiction, fantasy, thriller, action movie and, in fact, adventure. It is incredibly difficult to select the best pictures of the genre in the history of cinema. To compile our ranking, we have collected best adventure movies of all time, based on data from the highest-grossing films in the history of cinema.
10 Lawrence of Arabia
«Lawrence of Arabia“- an epic adventure film that tells about the events of the Arab Revolt of 1916-1918. The picture is one of the highest-grossing films in the history of cinema and was awarded seven Oscars. 10th place in the ranking of the best adventure films of all time.
In the center of the plot of the picture is the fascinating story of Thomas Edward Lawrence, the famous British army officer and traveler, an active participant in the Great Arab Revolt. He is a hero not only in England, but also in the Middle East. After enlisting in the army in 1914, he was sent to Egypt as an expert in Arabic. Two years later, Lawrence joined Prince Faisal, the leader of the rebels, and took part in the “War in the Desert” of 1916-1918. Then he received the name Lawrence of Arabia.
9. The Da Vinci Code
In 9th place among the best adventure films is the film “The Da Vinci Codebased on the novel of the same name by Dan Brown. The book received the status of a cult, caused a lot of controversy, led to the emergence of numerous documentaries about the work and life of Leonardo da Vinci and returned interest in the great genius of the Renaissance and the search for the Holy Grail.
Although the picture is positioned primarily as a mystical thriller, in fact it is an adventure in its purest form. Religious symbolism professor Robert Langdon, a leading authority in his field, is invited to the Louvre by police to help investigate a serious crime. When he arrives at the appointed time at the museum, he finds the murdered curator of the Louvre there. The latter, before his death, managed to leave some encrypted message on his body. Evidence points to involvement in the professor’s murder. Langdon’s granddaughter helps Langdon escape the museum from the police. Together they try to find answers to two vital questions: who killed the curator and what secret was the deceased protecting?
8. White sun of desert
«White sun of desert“- the favorite film of Soviet and Russian cosmonauts takes 8th place in the ranking of the best adventure films of all time. It is noteworthy that at the time of its release in 1970, the film was ambiguously perceived by the audience. Years later, it became a cult film, and the colorful character of Pavel Vereshchagin, the head of the former tsarist customs, became the unspoken talisman of the Russian customs service.

He meets his mother and inadvertently changes his own future. Now he must help his father win the heart of Lorraine (his mother), otherwise in the future Marty simply will not be born. The film received the status of a cult tape and is one of the best pictures of world cinema.
6. World of the Jurassic Period
«World of the Jurassic Period“- the 4th part of the cult franchise about cloned dinosaurs and one of the best adventure films of all time. It takes 4th place in the list of the highest grossing tapes and 6th place in our rating.
The plot of the picture returns viewers to the island, where the John Hammond Corporation built an amusement park with cloned dinosaurs. The founder has died long ago, and the new owner of the park, dissatisfied with the decrease in the number of visitors, decides to create new animals and update the entertainment program with their help. But the monster of monstrous size and strength, created by geneticists from the DNA of several dinosaurs, turned out to be too smart. Having deceived the guards, he breaks free.
5. Searching for the Lost Ark
In fifth place in the ranking of the best adventure films of all time is the first part of the famous Indiana Jones series of films.Searching for the Lost Ark“. The film takes place in 1936. Archeology professor Indiana Jones, on assignment from US military intelligence, is sent in search of an ancient artifact, the legendary Ark of the Covenant, one of the main relics of Christianity. The Nazis and one of Jones’ enemies, the French archaeologist Belloc, are hunting for the ark.

For a long time there was an opinion that Tolkien’s series of novels about Middle-earth could not be filmed. Jackson proved that this was not the case. The film trilogy “The Lord of the Rings” is not only a great adventure and fantasy movie, but also an example of an amazingly careful attitude to the original – the novels of the great John Ronald Tolkien, who gave us the wonderful world of Middle-earth.

The plot of the picture takes the audience into XXII century, to the giant planet Pandora, where a large corporation is mining a valuable mineral. Pandora is inhabited by huge animals and three-meter humanoid natives. To interact with them, Earth scientists created “avatars” – a hybrid of a human and a Navi (that’s what the inhabitants of Pandora call themselves).
