The Basque Pintxos enter the competition
New edition of the Euskal Herria pintxo championship in Hondarribia
The population of Fuenterrabía will host during the next days 13 to 15 October the ninth edition of the championship of Pintxos of Euskadi.
The auditorium of Marine House In morning and afternoon sessions it wraps up the public who visit the event for free to witness the production and construction of these delicious snacks live.
The best and most daring and avant-garde chefs from the Basque Country, Navarra and South of France (Iparralde) will not present their innovations during the three days of the event to win the grand prize of the organization endowed with € 3000.
It will not be the only one, below we detail the prizes for the participants:
- Grand Prize of the Basque Government: the Bacaladera for the winner endowed with € 3000 in metal, txapela and a trophy created by the artist Ramón Roteta.
- Grand Prize of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa: endowed with 2.000 euros in cash and a diploma for the second classified.
- Hondarribia City Council Grand Prize for the third, endowed with 1.000 euros and a diploma.
The winners in one of the four special categories will also be awarded:
- Bacaladera Award for the best cod pintxo.

The championship is sponsored by Basque government (Basque Government) of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa (Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa) and del Hondarribia City Council (Hondarribiko Udala), promoted in its development also by the Hondarribia hospitality association.
As it is an event with a great national and international diffusion, in recent years sponsorship actions have been developed that have led it to count on large companies in the granting of recognitions and prizes.
For this edition they have joined the collaboration Euskaltel, Cervezas Keler, Kutxabank, Eusko Label, Fagor, Xey, Hosfrinor and Corporación Haz.
We cannot ignore in the development of the news the intense and populous participation of the visitors who since the last edition have given their votes the popular pintxo award.
The financial institution promotes to choose the winner, a popular jury from among its clients through a lottery so that they actively participate in the contest.
It is important to mention the exceptional values and elaborations that the jury, if it deems it, can award one or more of the participants.
Renowned and prestigious chefs on the Spanish scene, as well as gastronomic critics and journalists from the specialized press will be the ones who form the jury to determine the winners of each category and award.
