Tetracyclinum TZF – action
Tetracyclinum TFZ belongs to the tetracycline group of antibiotics. It is active against gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria, including those that cause acne (Propionibacterium acne), as well as some protozoa.
The main indication for the use of the drug is acne vulgaris (acne vulgaris), especially its maculopapular form. Tetracyclinum TFZ tablets are pink in color. They are round, convex on both sides, smooth, free from cracks, stains and chipping. They are yellow in cross-section.

Tetracyclinum TZF – composition
The active substance of Tetracyclinum TZF is tetracycline hydrochloride – 250 mg in one tablet. The core of the drug consists of:
- potato starch,
- sodium carboxymethyl starch (type A),
- gelatine,
- talk,
- magnesium stearate,
- lactose monohydrate.
The shell includes:
- polyvinyl alcohol
- talk,
- sucrose,
- titanium dioxide,
- E 124 cochineal red lake,
- Opaglos 6000: silage (E 904),
- yellow carnauba wax (E 903);
- white beeswax (E 901).
Tetracyclinum TFZ – how to apply?
Tetracyclin TFZ film-coated tablets should be used according to the doctor’s instructions or the information provided in the drug leaflet. Most often, the patient needs to take 750 mg – 1,5 g per day in two divided doses every 6 hours. Tetracyclinum TFZ is best used 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
The tablet should be washed down with plenty of liquid, at least 250 ml of water. You must not consume dairy products or drugs containing metal ions immediately after taking the tablet or just before. They inhibit the absorption of tetracycline from the gastrointestinal tract, weakening the antibacterial effect of the drug.
Tetracyclinum TZF – contraindications to use
The main contraindication to the use of Tetracyclin TFZ coated tablets is hypersensitivity to any of the substances contained in the drug. In addition, it should not be taken by patients with acute liver failure.

Administration of the drug is also not recommended in children under 12 years of age, because the use of tetracycline in the period of shaping the teeth and skeleton may directly affect discoloration and damage to the teeth, as well as delay the development of the skeleton.

The recommended precautions when taking Tetracyclin TFZ film-coated tablets apply mainly to patients who have been diagnosed with acute liver failure or have kidney problems. The use of tetracycline may also exacerbate the symptoms of myasthenia gravis and lupus erythematosus.
The doctor should be informed if excessive yeast development, severe allergic reactions or severe diarrhea have appeared while taking the drug, which may be a sign of pseudomembranous enteritis. In this case, treatment should be stopped immediately. With long-term use of Tetracyclinum, liver and kidney function should be monitored and morphology performed regularly.

During treatment with the drug, you should avoid excessive sunlight and artificial UV radiation (solarium), because the drug may cause temporary allergy to the sun.
Tetracyclinum has no influence on driving or operating machinery, but if you experience side effects that reduce concentration, driving is not recommended.
Tetracyclinum TZF – interactions with other drugs
Before starting treatment with Tetracyclin TFZ film-coated tablets, please inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, as tetracycline may interact with them. This mainly applies to:
- drugs that reduce blood clotting,
- methoxyflurane (an anesthetic used during surgery and in dentistry),
- diuretics,
- methotrexate (used to treat cancer)
- cyclosporin A (used to treat atopic dermatitis)
- penicillins,
- oral contraceptives
- teofiliny.
Tetracyclinum TZF – can it be taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding?
Pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before starting dosing with Tetracyclin TFZ film-coated tablets. The drug should not be taken in the last trimester of pregnancy, as it may affect the formation of teeth and skeletal development. Tetracycline also passes into breast milk, therefore its administration is not advisable during breastfeeding.

Tetracyclinum TZF – side effects of use
The most serious side effects of using Tetracyclinum TZF include:
- allergic reactions – eyelid swelling, sudden shortness of breath, tightness in the chest, swelling of the face and lips, skin rash, blistering around the eyes, mouth, throat and genitals, pericarditis, fainting, rapid heartbeat,
- increase in intracranial pressure – headaches, visual disturbances,
- severe diarrhea.
Other side effects may include:
- infections and infestations,
- blood disorders,
- endocrine disorders,
- nervous system disorders,
- ear and labyrinth disorders,
- stomach and intestinal disorders,
- disorders of the liver and bile ducts.
Long-term use of Tetracyclin TFZ may alter the results of glucose, urobilinogen, protein and catecholamines in the urine, so inform your doctor about the use of the drug before carrying out tests.
Tetracyclinum TZF – how to store the drug?
Tetracyclinum TFZ film-coated tablets should be kept out of the reach and sight of children, out of the sun’s rays. After the expiry date, do not use the drug.
