Terry lily: Asian, oriental

The lily flower is a bulbous perennial, of which there are over 3500 species in nature. Gardeners fell in love with a beautiful hybrid – terry lily. For several years, breeders have been breeding it. Two types of these hybrids are popular: Asian and Oriental lilies.

The ancestors of Asian hybrids were brought from regions with a continental climate. It is distinguished by hot summers and cold winters. Thanks to this, Asian terry lilies are unpretentious in cultivation, they tolerate cold well. They can grow both in the shade and in the sun.

The fragrant oriental terry lily will decorate any garden plot

Plants are distinguished by a variety of colors, shape, flowering periods. Height can be from 30 cm to 150 cm.

Popular varieties:

  • “Sphinx”: a red flower with an orange tint;
  • “Anna-Maria Dream”: has a white-cream color;
  • “Aphrodite”: pale pink flower;
  • “Fata Morgana”: a plant with 12 yellow petals, which are a quarter covered with dark red specks.

Breeders are breeding more and more different shades of Asian terry lilies. There are no only blues and blues.

Many types of these flowers are odorless, so it is convenient to decorate rooms with them – they will not cause allergies and headaches. If you remove the fading petals in time and pour fresh water, then they will stand well in the vase.

Oriental terry lilies, unlike Asian ones, are capricious and delicate. It was not easy for breeders to develop hybrids.

They have huge fragrant beautiful flowers. Therefore, gardeners strive to grow them and are not afraid of the difficulties of caring for them.

The following varieties are popular:

  • Broken Hart: white flower with pink edges;
  • “Distant Drome”: has 3-4 layers of dark pink petals;
  • “Innocent Lady”: the bud has 30 rows of dark pink petals with pink dots;
  • Seren Angel: red flower with purple bloom;
  • Polar Star: white inflorescences with light green rays.

When growing oriental lilies, care must be followed. Special soil, proper watering, fertilizers according to the scheme are suitable for them. They are not resistant to frost. More often than Asian varieties, they suffer from viral diseases.

Asian lilies are easier to grow and require less hassle and labor. Oriental lilies look smarter and are several times more expensive than Asian lilies, but they are more difficult to grow. Therefore, when buying seed material, you need to decide which varieties of terry lilies are more suitable for decorating your garden.
