What you need to know about Sierra Tequila

  1. Specificity of raw materials

The company’s blue agaves do not grow in large artificial greenhouses, they grow in mountain fields.

  2. Innovation

Sierra was one of the first tequilas in the world to stop using artificial fertilizers in its fields.

  3. Traditions

Planting, tending and harvesting is done by experienced workers called jimadors.

This approach requires a lot of time and patience, as they work without the help of machines.

  4. blue agave harvest

The blue agave piñatas (what is left of the agave after the leaves have been cut) are cut with an ax and then placed in large autoclaves and cooked under the supervision of a technologist for 16 to 24 hours, then they are taken out for the next step.

If you taste agave at this stage, the taste will be similar to boiled pumpkin.

  5. Pressing, fermentation and distillation

The fruit, now soft and slightly fruity, undergoes a step-by-step juice extraction process by pressing.

Special yeast is then added to the blue agave juice, and by the end of the fermentation process, the liquid will contain between 8 and 10% alcohol by volume.

At the final stage, the drink is distilled twice in copper stills.

  6. Nothing is wasted

The fibers left after pressing are used to produce insulating materials and other natural things.

  7. tequila aging

After distillation, Blanco tequila is placed in large steel tanks where it matures and then bottled as Sierra Tequila Silver, Sierra Antiguo Tequila Plata or Sierra Milenario Tequila Blanco.

Other types of tequila are stored in oak barrels for different periods of time, which improves their taste to perfection.

  8. How much blue agave juice is in each bottle

Sierra tequila contains at least 51% blue agave juice. More premium Antiguo and Milenario contain the coveted 100%.

  9. What to do with a plastic cap

You can pour salt into it, you get a handy rimmer for shots.
