Señor Mark Teichenne, owner and CEO of the Spanish company Teichenne Liquors, claims that his firm produces regular absinthe the way it should be. There is no better word for the Teichenne brand: it really is an absinthe standard worth trying in order to get the right impression of the legendary drink.
In 1956, French-born Juan Teichenne Seno moved to Spain and founded Teichenne liquors. He was going to produce spirits: gin, liqueurs, absinthe, according to the recipes of his grandfather, the famous blender and taster of the early XNUMXth century, Jacques Hay.
Seigneur Teishenne built his distillery in the vicinity of the resort town of L’Arbok. In the middle of the XNUMXth century, almost all European countries had a ban on the sale of absinthe. Teishenne hoped that the products of his factory would be in high demand among foreign tourists, for whom this drink was a curiosity.
Initially, Teichenne liquors faced great difficulties: in the alcohol market in Spain, supply far exceeded demand. Only in the 70s of the XX century, when the company was headed by the son of its founder, Juan Teixenne Kenels, it was possible to conclude several large export contracts.
By the early 90s, the Teishenne brand had become fashionable: it became famous for its “schnapps” (natural fruit tinctures) and unusual multi-colored absinthes. The founder of the company worked on the creation of one of the brands of absinthe, which later became known as Teichenne, for many years. He wanted to create a perfect absinthe, a standard drink, so he methodically investigated the dependence of the taste of tincture on changing the dosage of certain ingredients. In 1994, the volume of sales of alcohol produced by the company increased so much that it was necessary to build a new modern distillery in the neighboring city of Belvey del Penedès.
In 1998, when the ban on the sale of absinthe was lifted in Europe, the finest hour of Teichenne liquors came. While most manufacturers were just setting up production of this drink, Teichenne liquors could already offer customers two excellent brands of absinthe: Jacques Hay and Teichenne.
The company is currently run by the grandson of its founder. Like all men in his family, Señor Marc Teishenne is a wonderful blender. He not only personally monitors the quality of raw materials and products, but also participates in the development of new recipes for drinks based on wormwood. Under his leadership, the “ladies’ absinthe” Fleur de Lis with a strength of 55% was created, as well as an unusual coffee liqueur based on Teishenne absinthe.
Types of absinthe Teishenne
Juan Teixenne Seno did not recognize any artificial colors or color stabilizers. The same rules are followed by his heirs. Teichenne absinthe is famous for the fact that in its manufacture the dosage of ingredients is observed with particular precision. The drink is subjected to triple distillation. It has a rich wormwood-anise taste, tinted with a warm coriander note. The content of thujone is 10 mg per liter.
There are two types of Teichenne absinthe:
Teichenne Green – green absinthe with a strength of 70%;
Teichenne Black – black absinthe with a strength of 85%.
The company also produces the Black Cat drink (a 30% ABV coffee liqueur based on Teichenne absinthe containing 4 mg of thujone per litre).
