Teeth whitening is effective and painless: expert advice

If you do not want to spend half of your salary on going to the clinic and are worried about the condition of your teeth after a professional procedure.

Nowadays, everyone dreams of becoming the owners of perfectly white teeth. That is why almost every day new brands appear, ready to offer effective whitening pastes, special brushes that can whiten teeth themselves. If we talk about a more professional level, then specialists create new devices and technologies that will painlessly make teeth a few shades lighter. However, it is not as cheap as we would like. That is why we asked an expert what kind of whitening is more gentle and safe.

– Today, there are two types of this procedure: home and so-called cabinet (that is, professional) whitening. Let’s take a closer look at the details of each format.

Undoubtedly, the format of “whitening at home” is attractive to many: there is no need to waste time on a visit to the clinic, it is convenient and comfortable. In this case, trays are used with a special whitening ingredient that contains hydrogen peroxide. However, the concentration of the whitening component is less than with the professional whitening procedure. This sounds attractive, but there are risks.

As a rule, in this case, bleaching is applied trays with special gelthat must be “put on” at night. In this case, the gel can leak out and injure the gums. And this, at least, will cause painful sensations, and with the most unfavorable result, a chemical burn. Another disadvantage of home whitening is the lack of a guaranteed effect. In fact, using trays for whitening at home works more to maintain the result after professional whitening.

If you consider teeth whitening with whitening pastes, then it is worth knowing that they include abrasives that are aimed at removing plaque. Excessive and long-term use of such pastes leads to the fact that the enamel begins to wear off from friction. Thus, whitening paste often does more harm than good. The more expensive toothpastes use hydrogen peroxide, but they cannot noticeably whiten teeth, working as a full-fledged whitening procedure. The choice of toothpaste should be approached responsibly, coordinating this or that product with your dentist, because in most cases, whitening pastes sooner or later cause sensitivity.

If you decide on professional care, then it is worth considering the fact that the sensitivity of the teeth will be increased for several days after the procedure. Also, many people think that after the procedure, a snow-white smile will last forever. However, the effect obtained, as well as its endurance, is a relative and individual thing. So, someone’s “snow-white result” can last for several years, while others will be lucky enough to show off with white teeth for only a couple of months. A similar variation in the effect obtained is associated with the anatomy of the edentin and edental tubules, which have their own genetic shade. Simply put, this property is innate, like skin color or eye color. That is, it is possible to whiten edentin to the level of “squeak”, but subsequently it will still restore its original natural color.

On average, the whitening effect lasts from one to three years. And in this process, attention, the patient’s food and bad habits are actively involved. Coffee, tea – all these drinks do not improve the color of the enamel.

You should not abuse bleach: it is recommended to do bleaching no more than once every six months. At the same time, be prepared for the “opposite effect”: a couple of weeks after the procedure, the color of the teeth may fade, approaching a few shades to their natural tone. Do not worry, the procedure was not carried out in vain: the shade, as a rule, does not return to the end.

Keep in mind one more important nuance: the fillings do not change their color, therefore, a couple of weeks after bleaching, you can begin the procedure for replacing them (with analogs of a lighter shade). Alternatively, you can restore previously installed fillings.
