KAS service dogs, Negrita, Sony, Bruce and Hunter, will be the first in Poland to help detect COVID-19, the spokeswoman for the National Revenue Administration Anita Wielanek told PAP. The 8-week-long dog training is a pioneering French-Polish project – she added.
“Four kennel teams of guides with KAS dogs from tax administration chambers in Opole, Rzeszów, Gdynia and Warsaw will be trained in the early detection of COVID-19 in humans” – explained Wielanek.
The pilot training will take place at the Training Center in Kamion. “Dogs will be taught to recognize the smell of COVID-19, taken from people infected with the virus,” she explained.
The training program is based on two independent medical training protocols for COVID-19 detection by dogs. The protocols were developed by a Polish research group led by prof. Michał Dzięcioł from the University of Life Sciences in Wrocław and the French research group of prof. Dominique Grandjean from the Veterinary College in Alfort (France).
