Tavanic 250, -500 – indications, contraindications, dosage, warnings

Tavanic 250, -500 is a systemic antibacterial agent. A chemotherapeutic drug used to treat bacterial infections. It is recommended in acute sinusitis, bronchitis and urinary tract infections. Do not use the preparation in children and adolescents before the end of the growth period. The drug is available on prescription in the form of film-coated tablets.

Tavanic 250, -500 indications for use

Tavanic 250, -500 is recommended for the treatment of mild to moderately severe infections in adults, caused by microorganisms sensitive to levofloxacin, such as:

  1. acute sinusitis
  2. exacerbation of chronic bronchitis,
  3. community acquired pneumonia, urinary tract infections including pyelonephritis,
  4. chronic bacterial prostatitis,
  5. skin and soft tissue infections.

Tavanic 250, -500 and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Tavanic 250, -500 are:

  1. hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation or other quinolines, epilepsy, tendinitis in the history of using other quinologists.
  2. Tavanic 250, -500 should not be used in children and adolescents before the end of their growth period.
  3. The use of the preparation is contraindicated in pregnant women and during breastfeeding.

Dosage

Adults:

  1. Acute sinusitis: 500 mg once daily for 1-10 days.
  2. Exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 250-500 mg once a day for 1-7 days.
  3. Community acquired pneumonia: 500 mg 1-2 times daily for 7-14 days.
  4. Uncomplicated urinary tract infections: 250 mg once daily for 1 days.
  5. Complicated urinary tract infections, including pyelonephritis: 250 mg once a day for 1-7 days.
  6. Chronic bacterial prostatitis: 500 mg once a day for 1 days.
  7. Infections of the skin and soft tissues: 250 mg once a day or 1 mg 500-1 times a day for 2-7 days.

In patients with impaired renal function (creatinine clearance less than 50 ml / min), it is necessary to adjust the dosage by the doctor depending on the degree of renal failure (based on creatinine clearance). No dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with hepatic insufficiency.

Dosage adjustment is not necessary in the elderly, unless there is concomitant renal failure.

Tavanic 250, -500 tablets should be swallowed whole, without chewing, and can be divided along the groove. Can be taken with or without food. Take 2 hours before or 2 hours after taking: iron salts, antacids or sucralfate, as these drugs reduce the absorption of the preparation. The preparation is taken once a day, or in divided doses, twice a day.

Tavanic 250, -500 – warnings

  1. The use of Tavanic with anticoagulants (such as warfarin, acenocoumarol) may increase the anticoagulant effect of these drugs.
  2. The use of the drug, especially for a long time, may lead to an overgrowth of non-susceptible microorganisms.
  3. Tavanic 250, -500 may cause psychotic reactions, very rarely suicidal thoughts and life-threatening behavior (sometimes such behavior may occur after the first dose of the preparation).
  4. The use of the preparation may cause hypersensitivity reactions.
  5. Do not use the preparation during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  6. People with galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency or malabsorption of glucose-galactose should not use this preparation because it contains lactose.
