Taste of black absinthe versus green

Nowadays you can find absinthe in almost any color. In addition to the classic green, there are blue, red and yellow options, as well as their various shades. The most peculiar black absinthe, so I will tell you about my impressions of this particular drink.

Let’s deal with color

In the bottle, the drink looks black, but when I poured it into a glass, it turned out to be more of a dark brown color. Usually such a dark shade is provided by infusion of black locust catechu or berry juice, usually blackcurrant juice.

There may be a more prosaic reason for the dark color – artificial dyes. I got a version that combined Catechu acacia and dyes. I’m not a big believer in all things natural, so the extra colorants didn’t bother me. The color difference of black absinthe is far from exhausted.

Composition

After tasting the drink, I immediately noticed more pronounced notes of wormwood than in green. This is due to the fact that not the leaves, but the root of the plant are placed in black absinthe. So the taste is more intense.

The rest of the composition is similar. These are the usual herbs and spices: anise, calamus, coriander, licorice, mint, etc. Some components may differ from the traditional set depending on the brand.

Black drink is usually stronger than its green counterpart.

The fortress of the first is 60-80 degrees. In my case, it was 75. This kind of alcohol is prepared according to standard technology: first, the plant components are infused with alcohol, and then distillation is performed.

They usually drink it diluted with water and adding sugar. I took five parts of water for one part of absinthe and I want to recommend this way of drinking as the most optimal.

My impressions

Having tasted the contents of the glass, I immediately felt that black absinthe is drunk much easier, and its taste is much softer than the usual version. I liked to feel its sweetish, but not cloying spicy notes on the tongue.

Most of all in absinthe I appreciate the anise. Everything was all right with him here: by no means less than I was used to.

The taste is very pleasant, so keep in mind that you can go over and not notice this, because in fact such absinthe is stronger than usual.

I decided to get acquainted with this type of drink in order to enjoy the taste, and not to see the green fairy, so I did not allow myself to become excessively drunk. I advise you to adhere to this rule and you when tasting any alcohol.
