Taroment

Taromentin is an antibacterial drug. A combined preparation containing a beta-lactam antibiotic in combination with a substance that protects the antibiotic molecules against the damaging effects of bacterial enzymes. Taromentin is in the form of film-coated tablets and a powder for oral suspension. It is issued by prescription.

Indications for the use of Taromentin

Indications: treatment of bacterial infections: properly diagnosed acute bacterial sinusitis, acute otitis media, properly diagnosed exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, community acquired pneumonia, cystitis, pyelonephritis, skin and soft tissue infections, especially cellulitis, bites by animals, severe periodontal abscess with spreading cellulitis, bone and joint infections, especially osteomyelitis.

Taromentin and contraindications

Contraindications to the use of Taromentin are:

  1. hypersensitivity to penicillins or any component of the preparation,
  2. history of a severe immediate hypersensitivity reaction (anaphylaxis) to another beta-lactam agent (cephalosporin, carbapenem, monobactam)
  3. history of jaundice or liver dysfunction associated with the use of preparations containing amoxicillin or clavulanic acid.

Dosage Taromentin

Adults and children weighing more than or equal to 40 kg

  1. 1 g (875 mg + 125 mg) twice / day or 2 mg (625 mg + 500 mg) three times / day. In severe infections 125 g (3 mg + 1 mg) 875 times / day.

Children weighing up to 40 kg

  1. usually from 25 mg + 3,6 mg / kg body weight / day to 45 mg + 6,4 mg / kg body weight / day in 2 divided doses or from 20 mg + 5 mg / kg body weight / day to 60 mg + 15 mg / kg body weight / day in 3 divided doses;
  2. In otitis media, sinusitis and lower respiratory tract infections, doses up to 70 mg + 10 mg / kg body weight / day may be considered.
  3. In patients with impaired renal function, the dosage depends on the creatinine clearance. In patients with creatinine clearance <30 ml / min, it is not recommended to use preparations containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in the ratio of 7: 1.
  4. No data are available on the use of doses> 40 mg + 10 mg / kg body weight / day (preparations containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in the ratio 4: 1) or> 45 mg + 6,4 mg / kg body weight (preparations containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in the proportion of 7: 1) in children up to 2 years of age.
  5. There are no data on the use of preparations containing amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in the ratio of 7: 1 in children up to 2 months of age.

Children up to 6 years of age should be given the drug in the form of an oral suspension. Taromentin should be taken at the beginning of a meal.

Taromentin – warnings

  1. Consult a doctor before using the drug in the case of: impaired renal function, infectious mononucleosis, liver dysfunction, digestive tract dysfunction.
  2. There are no data on the effect of Taromentin on the ability to drive and use machines.
  3. Patients with impaired renal function and those on a low-potassium diet should exercise caution and consider additional potassium intake.
  4. The drug should not be used during pregnancy, especially in the first trimester.
  5. Breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before use.
  6. Taking amoxicillin by mouth rarely causes severe symptoms of hypersensitivity and anaphylactic shock.

Other medicines and Taromentin

Inform your doctor if you are taking the following preparations:

  1. probencyd;
  2. digoxin;
  3. oral contraceptive preparations;
  4. drugs with bacteriostatic action (e.g. chloramphenicol, erythromycin, macrolide antibiotics, tetracyclines, sulfonamides);
  5. allopurynol;
  6. methotrexate;
  7. oral anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin).
