Pearl balls, i.e. tapioca, have been conquering the healthy food market for some time. It is not a plant, but a product of plant origin, i.e. starch obtained from cassava tubers. He comes from Brazil. It is available in various forms: such as pearl beads or water-soluble powder.

People suffering from various food allergies and atherosclerosis should reach for tapioca, because it does not contain cholesterol or gluten. It is considered a hypoallergenic product, besides it is low in calories, easily digestible and contains only small amounts of protein and easily digestible carbohydrates. It is obtained from cassava, a plant that is equivalent to potatoes in Asian countries.

For some time it can be found in the popular Bubble Tea – Thai milk-tea drinks. Tapioca is often used to prepare desserts and puddings, especially in Asia.

How to prepare tapioca?

It has a neutral taste, so it can be combined with mainly sweet additives: sugar, honey, etc. Before eating, you need to cook the tapioca granules, on average it takes 40 minutes, and after that it is good to pour them with cold water.

On store shelves you will also find instant tapioca, which can be eaten after pouring hot water over it and cooking it for five minutes (some manufacturers recommend soaking it beforehand).

It is gradually appearing in Poland, although it is not that popular yet. Most often we can find it in organic food stores, to buy on websites, oriental food stores. It can be stored in an airtight container for almost two years. It will be a good addition to many dishes, because it has no taste, and at the same time has a positive effect on the body:

  • desserts,
  • Broth (instead of pasta),
  • Cooked in coconut milk, it will be the Asian equivalent of rice pudding,
  • In shape in Bubble Tea,
  • Soups, sauces.

Who is recommended to consume tapioca?

First of all, people struggling with problems with the digestive system, cholesterol, allergies or slimming. Tapioca is a pure vegetable product, so it will be an excellent alternative for people who avoid eating meat or animal products. Thanks to the substances contained in it, it will replace cheese or eggs in the diet, and will also work as an addition to cakes and desserts, because it does not contain gluten.
