The capital of Bierzo, moves to the Middle Ages to celebrate the activities of the Templar Night.

On June 29, the medieval festivities will begin in the town of Ponferrada, which through the symbolic act of handing over the keys of the fortress to the Prior of the Order, the festive events set in this remote but very remote time will begin. passionate and above all mystical.

The Templar Unit of the Guard of Honor will be in charge of starting the activities for children and adults, which for four days will fill the streets of the city with gastronomic days, vintage markets and parading Knights Templar …

From June 30 to July 3, they will be held the templar gastronomic days and the round “Pinching Templar wines” as the best exponent of what we traditionally know as Tapas route.

Forty Ponferrada establishments have signed up for this wine and tapas route that will offer the visitor of their establishments for a single price of 3 euros a drink with their bite.

At the same time, several of the restaurants in the town have prepared medieval menus to be tasted, ranging in a price range from 15 to 22 euros.

Surely many of the stops and inns that will take place during the parade, Templar on Saturday at midnight, will be the hospitality establishments attached to the festivities, which will provide sustenance and drink to many of the thousands of walkers who parade under the light of the moon, or to the thousands of spectators who support the act, from the mists of the Sil river, to the Castle of the Templars in the upper part of the Villa.

A Tradition under the moonlight

The Templar Night is a recreational activity, which takes the locals of the town of Ponferrada to the medieval world for a few hours.

The first full moon of summer is the cause of this fantastic involution, which commemorates the return to the city of the Grand Master of the Order of the Knights Templar, Frey Guido de Garda, back in the XNUMXth century.

From all corners, streets and inns of the city it is spread to the entire local population to recreate the exciting history of relics that it carried and the subsequent delivery of the symbols found in the Holy Land such as the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail.

Music, fireworks, street entertainment and gastronomic tastings make the Templar Night one of the liveliest festivals of the Ponferrada summer.

One of the novelties of this edition is the ordination of “little squires” to the youngest children between 6 and 13 years old, who want to become part of the Templar culture and thus begin to get involved in recreational and tourist activities from an early age.
