Tapalcazar, Author’s Bites in the heart of La Mancha

The Ruta de la Tapa Manchega in the town of Alcázar de San Juan, turns towards signature cuisine, replacing the concept of the contest, not the form, in Tapalcazar 2014

During two weekends, the one from July 25 to 27 and the following one from August 1 to 3, the participating hospitality establishments will offer a tapa at the price of € 2.

The success of previous editions, together with the high level presented by the creators of the participating tapas, have made the event evolve into a new contest, where the authors of the tapas also take center stage.

The Author’s Tapas Contest ‘Tapalcázar’ in this way, it collects an important cache, within the national competitions destined to promote the hospitality activity in the cities and towns where they are held.

The city council of the city, in the hands of the department of tourism and ascend (association of businessmen centro mancha), presented the program of the contest and the novelty of its evolution, as well as the list of restaurants and bars participating in it.

For this edition the contest will feature illustrious personalities from the gastronomic world who will judge and value the exquisite bites, endowing the winners with what is intended to be a prestigious culinary recognition in the form of “Golden Top” “silver” and “bronze”

The invited professionals for the occasion are:

  • Mr. Javier Chozas from the Toledo School of Hospitality.
  • Mr. Rubén Sánchez-Camacho Infantes of the El Bodegón Restaurant.
  • Mr. Sergio Fernández, Chef and cook of “La Mañana de La 1” (TVE).
  • Ms. Mª Jesús Pelayo, Councilor for Tourism of the Alcazar de San Juan City Council. 
  • A member of the Valdepeñas Hospitality School pending confirmation.
  • A resident of the town, chosen from among those registered in the mail of the association co-organizing the event: info@asecem.com.

Citizens do not disappear from the contest, they will continue tasting, but no longer voting for the winners, their opinion about their tastes and choices as the best tapas will only be provided during the first weekend, due to the professional turn to which they have wanted to bring to the event gastronomic.

The following weekend there will be a blind tasting offered by the restaurateurs to the jury described above and the latter choosing the winners just before the end of the contest …

Different author tapas can be consumed in any of the 23 venues attached to the event, so far to date … without any restriction or obligation of ingredient or theme.

Freedom of creation!… And as the ones chosen by the jury will be known on the eve of the last two days, those chosen will be able to benefit from the high demand that their dishes will generate, with certain repercussions in an important economic return to their establishments.
