Tantum Verde is an aerosol that is used to relieve discomfort during inflammation of the mouth and throat. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, it is indicated during severe pain, redness and swelling that occurs during viral and bacterial infections of the mouth and throat. Tantum Verde can also be used after tooth extraction.

Tantum Verde – composition

The active substance of Tantum Verde is benzydamine hydrochloride. 1 ml of the spray contains 1,5 mg of this substance. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, i.e. NSAIDs. Unlike other NSAIDs, benzydamine hydrochloride does not inhibit the activity of cyclooxygenase or lipoxygenase and does not affect the appearance of gastrointestinal ulceration.

The auxiliary substance Tantum Verde known to act is methyl parahydroxybesoate. 1 ml of the spray contains 1 mg of this substance. In addition, Tantum Verde contains: glycerol, ethanol 96%, methyl parahydroxybenzoate, mint flavor, saccharin, sodium bicarbonate, polysorbate 20 and purified water.

Tantum Verde – indications

Tantum Verde should be used during sore throats due to infections in children. The drug can also be used in the youngest children.

The indication for use aerozolu Tantum Verde is:

  1. bacterial, viral and fungal infection of the oral cavity;
  2. inflammation of the throat or larynx;
  3. inflammation of the mucous membranes after radiation therapy;
  4. the period after ENT procedures;
  5. the period after dental procedures, e.g. tooth extraction;
  6. post-intubation period;
  7. the period after the removal of the palatine tonsils.

Tantum Verde – action

The active substance of Tantum Verde, i.e. benzydamine hydrochloride, has a local anti-inflammatory, analgesic and local anesthetic effect. In addition, Tantum Verde prevents the formation of swelling, limiting the permeability of capillaries, i.e. capillary blood vessels. It also has an antiseptic effect. Benzydamine hydrochloride minimizes the formation of vascular changes by stimulated leukocytes, and also inhibits leukocyte degranulation and aggregation.

Tantum Verde aerosol applied topically is more effective than the drug administered orally, because it penetrates the skin and mucous membranes and goes directly to the inflamed tissues, thanks to which it reaches higher concentrations. Thanks to this action, it practically does not show any general action.

Tantum Verde – dosage

Tantum Verde is available in the form of an aerosol, which is intended for rinsing the mouth and throat. The drug should be used in accordance with its intended purpose. The given doses should not be exceeded, as this increases the risk of side effects and may pose a threat to the patient’s health and life. If you are not sure about the dosage, please contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Tantum Verde can be used in children under 6 years of age. In children of this age, a safe daily dose is 1 dose for every 4 kg of the child’s weight. This amount of preparation should be administered 2 to 6 times a day. However, it should be remembered that, regardless of the weight of the child, do not give more than 4 at a time Tantum Verde doses. Children between 6 and 12 years old can be given 4 doses 2-6 times a day, and children over 12 years of age and adults can be given 4 to 8 doses 2-6 times a day.

Tantum Verde can be used for a maximum of 7 days without consulting a doctor. Before using the medicine to rinse the mouth and throat, you must press the spray head a few times to fill the pump with the solution. In this way, we will obtain the appropriate level of atomization. In one a dose of Tantum Verde aerosol there is approximately 0,17 ml of solution.

Tantum Verde – contraindications

Tantum Verde is contraindicated for people who are hypersensitive to the active substance or any other ingredient of the drug.

Tantum Verde – precautions

It should be remembered that some diseases and conditions of the body can increase the risks associated with the use of Tantum Verde. Then it may be necessary to reduce the dose or discontinue use of the preparation. In some cases, it may be necessary to perform additional tests.

If your troublesome symptoms related to side effects do not improve after 7 days, or if they start to get worse, a doctor should be consulted.

Tantum Verde should be used in the mouth and throat. It is in the form of an aerosol, so it is recommended especially for patients who have difficulty rinsing the mouth and throat. However, remember to prevent Tantum Verde from getting into your eyes.

If you use Tantum Verde for a long time, you may develop an allergic reaction. If disturbing symptoms appear, discontinue use of the preparation and consult a physician. Tantum Verde – interactions

Before using Tantum Verde, inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, including those sold without a prescription. However, no interactions of the aerosol with other drugs have been reported so far.

Tantum Verde – side effects

Tantum Verde, like any other drug, may cause side effects. However, it should be remembered that they will not appear in every person. Often, the benefits of using Tantum Verde outweigh the harm caused by side effects.

The side effects of using Tantum Verde include:

  1. numbness or loss of sensation at the site of application of Tantum Verde;
  2. burning sensation of the oral mucosa;
  3. dry mouth;
  4. nausea and vomiting;
  5. dizziness and headaches;
  6. rash;
  7. hypersensitivity reactions and anaphylactic reactions.

Side effects at the site of Tantum Verde application usually appear periodically and disappear on their own. Most often they do not require any treatment. Tantum Verde is absorbed into the circulatory system to a very small extent. General side effects such as nausea and dizziness appear very rarely.
