Taming the budgerigar. Video

Budgerigars are beautiful, obedient and cheerful birds. Like other domestic animals, they need to be tamed so that parrots are not afraid of people, follow commands, and learn to speak. The domestication of a budgerigar is a patient and long-term work, but the result is amazing: the bird begins to understand the owner at a glance and turns out to be no less intelligent than a cat or dog.

Budget parrot: how to tame

To properly and quickly tame a budgerigar, you need to enjoy communication and work with the bird. Do not waste your time if you are not happy to repeat the same thing over and over again or to accustom the bird to the feeder.

If you just took a budgerigar, give it time to take a break from the move and new impressions, look around and calm down. The first day you should not climb up to the bird, trying to teach it to do something or showing it where the drinker, swing or bathtub is where you can swim. Let the parrot be alone, examine everything on its own, get used to the new environment. An adult parrot takes longer to get used to than a young one.

The time to get used to depends on the nature of the bird: after half an hour, some begin to twitter happily and calmly sit in the arms of their new owners, others will need more than one day to fully get used to

Wait until the parrot is calm, then you can approach the cage to clean the pan, add food, pour water. Now it’s time to teach your parrot to the saucer, which is usually the place for treats. Food for parrots should be poured into special feeders, and individual delicacies, which are a reward during taming, should be given on a saucer outside the cage. To do this, in the morning put a boiled egg, steamed porridge, grated carrots, sprouted oats, low-fat cottage cheese on a saucer. After a while, the parrot will get used to this ritual and will even begin to sit on your hand while you hold the saucer.

When the bird already feels confident outside the cage, in the afternoon, when the parrots are calmer, offer a treat from your hand – a slice of lettuce, a carrot, a slice of apple. Gradually, the parrot will get used to your hands and stop being afraid of you. Then you can run him around the room to get him comfortable with its size and decor. But to do this, check the room in advance for the risk of injury to parrots: close the vents, glass doors.

But don’t rush things. Even if the parrot already feels confident in your hands, there is no need to touch, stroke or hold it in your palm.

Teaching a parrot to talk

Talk to the bird constantly, repeat the same phrases, try to pronounce them only in a certain situation. It is desirable that women or children be engaged in learning to talk – parrots perceive high voices better. Never yell at a bird, even if it does not start talking and does not understand what is required of it, and even more so do not use physical pressure. Remember that females learn to speak worse than males. Practice with your parrot regularly, otherwise it will forget the learned words and phrases.
