Taiga stories: “The Lost Gun” – a case from life

😉 Hello, my regular readers and guests! Many people like taiga stories about nature, animals and people. In the short story “The Missing Gun” about a case from the life of a rural teacher. I hope you find it interesting.

The missing gun

This story took place about 20 years ago in a small taiga village. It is located in the outback, so traditional Siberian customs have been preserved there.

For example, tenants may go on a visit and not lock the door in the house. It is enough to lean a broom against it or prop it up with a bucket, making it clear that no one is at home. None of the local residents will definitely enter.

Elena

She taught mathematics at a local school. She buried her husband and therefore lived alone. Elena, she was prominent, beautiful, well-groomed. She received a good salary and was known as an enviable bride. In any case, she had a lot of fans.

But what’s the point if all normal men have already moved to the city a long time ago. Only alcoholics, old people and “married people” remained in the village.

Once a young widow met through a newspaper with a convict named Ilya, he was to spend another six months in the colony. I went on a date. The woman really liked Ilya, and he reciprocated her.

After her release, Elena invited a new acquaintance to move to her, he gladly accepted such an offer. He himself comes from the village. Before going to prison, he was an avid fisherman and a good builder. Therefore, life in the remote taiga did not frighten him at all.

Six months passed quickly – and now Ilya came to his new lover. They decided to postpone the marriage, save up money for the wedding, and for now live a civil marriage.

Ilya took up fishing in earnest – he set up nets and sold the fish to visiting “merchants” from the city. It is good that Elena still has a motor boat and fishing nets from her husband. They lived on the proceeds from the sale and the teacher’s salary.

Let’s brand the bunny

One day one of the local men lost a gun. In the evening, returning home from a hunt, Nikita left his weapon in the entryway, and in the morning he missed it – there was no gun.

First of all, I thought about my three young sons and interrogated them all with passion. Didn’t you touch Batino’s gun, they say? They shook their heads. Then Nikita gathered the neighbors’ men for a gathering and said:

– We have never robbed anyone in our village! And then Lenka brought this convict … And the gun was gone at once. Ilya was summoned to a meeting.

– Well, what, you say, was in prison? One of the men asked.

– For theft, – he honestly admitted.

– Oh, for theft, – the men smiled. – Clear. Well, let’s go, we need to talk.

In general, Ilya was told to get out of the village. He, of course, did not agree, but they explained to him:

– We have our own laws here. Taiga all around. If you go fishing, you won’t come back, no one will look. So get off for a day and get out. We will not tolerate thieves here.

Ilya thought. He was originally from the village, he knew that the peasants of the village did not throw words to the wind. There is nothing to do, he said goodbye to Elena (she knew about what had happened, cried hard), and left the village. Forever and ever. Nobody else lost anything.

Only now the gun was found a week later. It turned out that Nikita’s sons hid him in the forest so that they could then quietly shoot. One of the neighbors went into the forest and came across a loss. The gun was returned to Nikita, but Ilya was no longer to be found.
