The oriental grape variety Taifi has been known since ancient times. Brought from the Arabian port, it quickly gained popularity in Europe. Its berries are highly beneficial because they contain a large amount of vitamins and nutrients. And their calorie content is relatively low compared to other varieties.
Variety description
The bushes are very tall. Taifi pink grape seedlings are characterized by active growth. The cuttings root very well and quickly. The ripening period is late, 160-175 days to removable maturity from the moment of bud break.
In young shoots, the crown is covered with light cobwebby pubescence, slightly colored, with a dark crimson border. Annual, ripened shoots of red-brown color. The leaves are large, slightly dissected, five-lobed, oblong-rounded with raised edges. The upper side cuts are closed, deep, with an elongated ovoid or wide oval lumen, the lower ones are of medium depth, lyre-shaped, open, with parallel sides. Open petiole notch. The lower part of the leaf is bristly pubescent or smooth.
The flower is bisexual. Bunches of Taifi grapes are very large, weighing up to 1500-2300 kg, with developed lateral lobes, cylindrical or conical in shape.
The bunch is loose with a long stem, lignified at the base. Taifi berries are very large, weighing 7-9 g. Cylindrical or oblong, oval in shape, with a beveled top, 23-28 mm long, red or dark pink with a purple tint. Covered with small dots and moderate wax coating. The skin is dense, thick, bright red on the inside. The flesh is fleshy-crispy, dense, juicy, with pleasant taste characteristics.
Shoots ripen well. The percentage of fruit-bearing shoots is 24-26, grapes are able to bear fruit even on stepchildren. However, it is characterized by poor resistance to oidium, mildew, and can be damaged by spider mites, so it is necessary to regularly chemically treat the bush. Not whimsical to the type of soil, relatively drought-resistant and salt-tolerant. Frost resistance is low, requires mandatory shelter for the winter.
When overripe, the berries do not crumble, they can be stored for a long time, but at the same time, rapid wilting of the ridges is possible. They have a high commodity value and good transportability.
Features of agricultural technology
Taifi pink grapes should be grown on a high trunk with a sufficient supply of perennial wood. High yields are achieved only after long pruning of fruit vines, more than 7-9 eyes. It can be cultivated only in the most warmly supplied viticulture regions due to its poor winter hardiness, or it can be especially carefully covered for the winter, and not opened immediately in the spring, making ventilation holes first, until green buds appear.
This variety needs a lot of light and heat to ripen the crop and shoots, so it is better to plant it near stone walls facing southwest or south.
